Hi <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,
This month's newsletter has been largely put together by the co-editor, Nixz Kerr!
There are a lot of events ramping up around Good Beer Week, so now is a good time to check your calendar and book it in.
We hope you take advantage of the change in seasons to brew more, and to brew cooler fermenting beers.
Keep brewing,
Chris Speck & Nixz Kerr

President's Report
Greeting Westgater’s,
The year is flying along already with summer now in the past. The Stout Extravaganza is going to be on us soon, so we will be asking for help both in the organising and running of the whole event. Please talk to Dale or one of the committee if you have anything to offer.
Melbourne Brewers Beerfest 2016 at Kyneton has been run and won. Unfortunately we did not get club of show (second by 4 points this year). On the upside, we had 3 brewers take 4 places as well as brewer of show. Well done to the place getters. Look for results later in the newsletter.
There are a few events coming up in preparation to Good Beer Week this year. A number of these are competitions open to homebrewers and homebrew clubs. As a club, we have chosen to compete in some of these, so a couple of beers were made at Clare’s place a few weeks ago. The competition is based around the local brew clubs producing 2 beers to be judged on the 20th March (the more switched on people will notice this is our next meeting). The beers are an English Porter (BJCP 13C) and an Irish Extra Stout (BJCP 15C). Judging will take place from 2:00pm at Craft & Co. In Fitzroy, and members are welcome, although they would like to know how many for catering purposes.
The Yarra Valley Brewers Belgian Beerfest is also coming up quickly, so get your entries in and support both our clubs. The judging will take place at Hargreaves Hill brewery in Lillyday, which is a 10 minute walk from the train station. Please try and attend as it is a pleasant day and a great comp. Check out the website.
Well, we had a small meeting last month, but with some potential members showing up it was a good day. Hope to see you all at the next meeting.

Field Museum and Off Colour Brewing Collaborate on an Ancient Recipe from 600 - 1050 AD Peru
A collaboration between Off Colour Brewing and The Field Museum has inspired a beer that has an ancient past.
The beers creation was started when researchers at the Cerro Baúl in southern Peru discovered the relics of a brewery. Ceramics excavated showed residues of maize and molle berries, which made for a more potent drink than the traditional chicha (corn beer) of the era.
Off Colour Brewing imported some purple corn, spiced it up with molle berries and put the beer into the closet thing they had to a ceramic vat, which is their (in their words) 'beat up lactobacillus tank'
The details of the beer are here at Off Colour Brewing
Original artical by the Field Museum is here
Full technical research retails by the team from The Field Museum can be found here
