Hi <<First Name>>,

The days are getting longer and the evenings warmer.  It's a great time of year.

Sitting on the patio.
Road Trips.
Evening walks.

Warmer weather means people are out and about much later at night. That includes people like us and the bad guys.  It's time to start considering the effectiveness of your visual security.  Lets start with how your house appears at night.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about my grandparents house.  I can remember going to to visit them when I was young and the living room lamp would turn off on its own.  Real inconvenient for me.  They're in the kitchen talking and I'm hanging out in the living room when the lights suddenly go out. I had to rummage around, find the timer, and turn it back on.

The timer was set to their schedule.  If they didn't have company, that's usually when they would return to the kitchen. That timer saved them from having to turn it back off.

I didn't think of it from a security perspective at the time but I certainly do now.

If the timers work for you while you're home, they'll continue to work for you while you're away. Nothing welcomes the bad guys faster than a house that's dark in the evening.

Is there a lamp or light visible from the street that you turn on most nights? Alternatively you can only use a timer while you're gone just to keep the bad guys guessing.

Do you have any security tips that you'd like to share?  Want to discuss this one?  I'd love to hear from you.
