Youth in Action!
Its Kick Butts Day!
Middle School Youth Action members gave an interactive presentation during all lunch breaks today at the Iber Holme Gove Middle School.  This day of awareness is to discourage youth from even thinking about using tobacco products.
A special "Thank you" to our partners at Breathe NH for sharing their "gross" but "informative" props.  (see side bar)

Our friends at Campaign for a Drug Free kid also released a youth made video today.   It highlights the seven ways that big tobacco market to young people.  Of particular interest should be the e-ciggs, also known as vaping pens.  Liquid nicotine, or vaping juice, is added to these devices.  They come in a wide variety of kid friendly flavors and contain nicotine, the very addictive ingredient in tobacco products.
Its Film Festival time!
Both of our amazing Youth Action groups, at the middle and high school, will be participating in this years Granite Youth Alliance Film Festival.   Our high school group will be addressing our current Heroin crisis and our middle school group has chosen to address the emerging vaping issue.
Both groups looked at data and information that they feel could be an issue with their peers.  They chose issues that they want to have a positive impact on.  These young people are amazing.  To see past videos they have produced please visit our YouTube account and check them out.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
A a holiday known for wearing green, good music, delicious food and fun.
Also known by some for excessive drinking.   This is a reminder that your kids are watching – or they could be participating?
Talking with your young people.  We know they do listen to their parents and other adults in their lives.  What you say and how you act matters!  Holidays like St. Patty's Day are a great opportunity to talk with your teen about alcohol and begin shaping healthier behaviors.

Remember to:
  • Set clear expectations about avoiding alcohol - and remind them of the risks of underage drinking
  • Appeal to their self-worth by letting them know that they have a lot going for them and don’t need alcohol to have a good time
  • Be upfront and open about any family history of alcoholism or substance abuse
  • Celebrate safely with family by watching parades, making green pancakes and smoothies, or listening to traditional Irish music
  • Lead by example.  Don't tell a young person not to drink and drive and then do it yourself.

Our community of Raymond is responding to the Heroin crisis.  Do you know NH averages one death a day to Opioids?  For each individual struggling with substance misuse is a family, friends and others whose lives are effected.  We want to make sure they know they are not alone, people do care and do want to help.
