Root Division - The Alchemist

Opening in April is a group show curated by Amy Cancelmo at Root Division in San Francisco. Root Division is a visual arts non-profit that connects creativity and community through a dynamic ecosystem of arts education, exhibitions, and studios. The exhibit will be a part of the annual fundraiser, TASTE. Two works from the Diffusion series and two works from the Permutation series will be on view.

Presented in conjunction with Root Division’s annual culinary event, TASTE, this exhibition looks at the artist - as well as the cook, baker, and mixologist - as wizards in their craft. Conjuring up colorful experiments and irresistible concoctions, this show aims to illuminate the magical transformations that occur in the studio and in the kitchen.

Studio Exhibition - Symbiosis

 

Thursday, May 5th, 2016
Reception: 7-10pm | Performance: 8pm


Symbiosis is a co-curated exhibit celebrating the first year of The Ark Project, an artist-run studio and exhibition artist residency program with a focus on creation, presentation, and documentation of contemporary art in all forms that engage discovery, transformation, and innovation. The program mission is to promote intercultural dialogue and artist mobility.

Open call applications are now being accepted for 2017.

The Ark Project's first resident is Denise Susanne Townsend who is a local artist who just moved here from Boulder, Colorado. I met Denise during our graduate studies at SFAI; she is a phenomenal painter and performance artist who explores the transformative nature of her materials. 
 
New work from Tobias Tovera and Denise Susanne Townsend will be on exhibit in addition to a collaborative project and performance.

Performance: 8pm  


Experience Symbiosis :: An immersive exhibit exploring mutualism and sentience in which the natural world provides life. Movement and energy are trajectories using materials that transform and evolve. 


Enjoy an evening of fine art at the new studio hosting The Ark Project located at Peralta Studios, a converted manufacturing plant rebuilt as creative live/work studio lofts. 

The exhibition will feature a no-host bar to raise funds for the Emeryville Youth Art Program.
