Newsletter
The PLATINA 2 project has come to an end. With this last newsletter, we look back to the Final Event which took place on Friday 5 February 2016 in Rotterdam at the Stichting STC-Group. It was the occasion to look at the final outcome of PLATINA 2 and the latest developments/studies at European level and to discuss what topics to take up in the future.
In 2006, the European Commission adopted NAIADES. Although it was considered a good policy frame, there was no dedicated budget. So existing financing programmes needed to be exploited which resulted in the PLATINA 1 and 2 projects. They have supported the implementation of NAIADES since 2008 during 7 years and have addressed the challenges for inland navigation through 60 actions, covering areas such as infrastructure, markets, River Information Services, human resources and many more.

I would like to thank the whole team for contributing all their knowledge, wisdom, time and work. There was a need for cooperation, for gathering and analysis of factual information, for consultation of the sector and for networking between the stakeholders. PLATINA did all of that. In that sense, it has been a truly successful project that has really helped to shape inland navigation and its future.

What is next? The joined efforts should not stop here. We need to prepare the next step in a 2 to 3 year time perspective. So why not start to reflect on a possible PLATINA 3 as of now?
