The Big WELCOME Cafe
To celebrate International Autism Awareness Week, which runs from 2nd-8th April, we are excited to share a brand new book, made by participants of The Big WELCOME Cafe. The group, set up by The Swadlincote Asperger Society, with support from People Express, have attended weekly workshops at our building over the last year, working with professional artists to create work that they have compiled into this book. A digital copy of the book is available here.

Feel Fun/ Gorgeous
Over February Half-Term 19 young people joined us over three days at The Old Post Centre, Newhall, to take part in a fun project, exploring ways to be healthy, being creative and promoting positive wellbeing. The group took part in different workshops including drama, exploring emotions, graffiti, willow weaving, ceramics and healthy eating. This programme was a chance for us to explore what we had learnt from the pilot project, Feel Gorgeous, which ran over the Summer holidays last year, and use what we had learnt to further support young people to have fun and feel good about themselves.

The Feel Good Factor
Our two year project working with local young people continues with sculpture workshops, working with Bernie Rutter from Sculptureworks. The group are making moulds from small model cars ready to be added to a larger sculptural piece that we be installed at the Festival of Transport.
The group, who were previously working with Kalila Storey, creating a performance piece, will continue working with her in July. The performance was postponed during the February Half-Term, but will now be showcased during the Summer.
