Two steps forward for the safety of EU medicines
“European citizens deserve medicines that are safe, of high quality and effective”, stressed Andrzej Rys, Director at DG Sante. To this end and to implement the Falsified Medicines Directive, the European Commission published a new legislative measure that introduces medicine authentication by means of two safety features – a unique identifier and an anti-tampering device. A greener world with PEF
A joint venture has taken place with the goal of producing and marketing FDCA, a material produced from renewable resources which are used to produce PEF, a bio-based plastic that ensures longer shelf life, lowers the amount of packaging material and can be recycled. “The joint venture will further strengthen the global technology and establish the market leadership for FDCA and PEF. With BASF, we plan to start production of FDCA to enable the first commercial launch of this exciting bio-based material and to further develop and grow the market to its full potential”, says CEO of Avantium. The EU Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) has called on policymakers to stop undermining EU feed and livestock competitiveness with legislative obstacles and administrative burdens. “The GMO ‘opt-out’ proposal for food and feed imports [...] jeopardizes livestock farmers’ access to competitive feed supplies”, Ruud Tijssens, president of FEFAC, said.
