Mechanical Engineering Professor Emeritus Clifford L. Sayre, Jr. Passes at 88
Retired Mechanical Engineering Professor Clifford L. Sayre, Jr. passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 due to kidney and heart failure related to Alzheimer's complications. The long-time Silver Spring, Md. resident was a member of the University of Maryland faculty for more than 30 years.
Design Day Fall 2015
Fall Design Day, held on December 8, 2015, showcased 29 student teams, all featuring original product prototype designs. Thank you to all of our sponsors and judges who made this event a success, and ME alumnus Tim Arnold who donated $15,000 to the Capstone Design Fund!

Korsnick Delivers Transforming Energy Lecture at UMD
Alumna and Visiting Committee member Maria Korsnick (B.S. '86), COO of the Nuclear Energy Institute, joined us at UMD to present her lecture "Nuclear Energy's Vital Role in America's Diverse Electricity System" which discussed the strengths of the U.S. nuclear energy industry, its ability to help meet carbon emissions reduction goals, and the transformative changes expected in the coming years.
FEATURED FUND: Marvin Roush Fellowship in Risk & Reliability
As one of the pioneers in reliability engineering, Professor Emeritus of Reliability Engineering Marvin Roush helped establish the educational program in risk and reliability at the University of Maryland. This fellowship honors Dr. Roush and his contributions to the field of risk and reliability by providing support to graduate students studying reliability engineering.
Dr. Roush is a University of Maryland alumni (Ph.D. '64) and has authored or co-authored a number of publications in reliability engineering system analysis and process safety management.
