GPSC  Newsletter

The Grande Prairie Sport Council is a volunteer driven, not for profit organization representing and serving the Grande Prairie regional sport community.
 

We serve as a collective voice for sport in our region, striving for quality sport experiences for all and attracting, creating and retaining sport tourism opportunities for Grande Prairie region.

  PHYSICAL LITERACY TRAINING SERIES


Training series is made possible thanks to  

The Be Fit For Life Centre and the Grande Prairie Sport Council have teamed up with RBC Learn to Play and Makadiff sports grants to help develop a sustainable and healthy sport community in Grande Prairie and surrounding areas. One of the ways we look forward to doing this is by building our leadership capacity by offering FREE workshops on a variety of topics based on Physical Literacy. Whether you are in sport, recreation, education, early childhood, or health…physical literacy speaks to all of us!

You are under no obligation to attend all workshops. You can pick and choose which ones you'd like to participate in or you can choose to do the entire series. It's entirely up to you!

These workshops generally run from $75 - $140 each. Please do your best to attend if you register. 

PHYSICAL LITERACY 201 – PLAY TOOLS

APRIL 16TH, 2016

Location: GPRC
Time: 1-4PM

This Workshop will provide participants with the ability to execute, score and interpret the physical literacy assessment for youth (PLAY) tools in a sport specific setting. The session includes an update on physical literacy trends, which highlight potential roles for sport associations.  Participants will leave this session with a renewed sense of urgency to address physical literacy through your strong working knowledge of the PLAY tools and their  application. There are numerous opportunities and applications for these tools, including physical literacy awareness for parents and coaches, global and individual tracking of physical literacy, assessing the impact of your programs on physical literacy development and research applications.

MOVE & PLAY – PHYSICAL LITERACY ENRICHED PLANNING

APRIL 30TH, 2016

Location: GPRC
Time: 1-4PM
Cost: FREE (part of the PL training series)

Participants will learn how to incorporate physical literacy enriched activities into a variety of indoor or outdoor settings. Using the Be Fit For Life Centres  Move & Play cards to develop physical literacy in variety of programs and environments! This resource includes over 75 activity cards focusing on the first 3 stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model: Active Start, FUNdamentals, and Learn to Train. The activities can be  easily implemented by a coach, educator, recreation leader, early childhood educator or parent. Physical literacy will be discussed as a means to increase  active participation, enhance performance, as well as to reduce risk of injury.

HIGH FIVE – SPORT

MAY 21ST, 2016

Location: GPRC
Time: 9-2PM
Cost: FREE (part of the PL training series)

This 5-hour training is designed for the competitive coach in a club/organization. Aligned with the Fundamentals and Learn to Train stages of Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), HIGH FIVE Sport focuses on the social, emotional, and cognitive development and wellbeing of athletes. The training is based in research and has been designed to help coaches with top coaching dilemmas such as dealing with parents, keeping the child’s interest, ensuring fair play and an emotionally safe environment.

JUNE 4TH, 2016

We believe that physical literacy has the SUPER POWER to enrich your programs. By creating a positive environment filled with exploration, learning, growth, and play this is bound to be the best program yet. When equipped with these powers, leaders truly turn into SUPER HEROS. We want to build capacity within your organizations walls so that you can impact more child & youth in a positive powerful way. This workshop will equip you with all the tools needed for the job so you leave with the knowledge and skills to facilitate a physical literacy training workshop in your organization. Increasing the amount of super staff on your team.

NCCP Part A
This is a coach training & certification program for all coaches in more than 60 sports.

Coach Enhancement Program

Do you want the highest quality, developmentally appropriate program for your emerging & elite athletes? Do you want to be the best grassroots coach you can be?  Create a rock solid Yearly Training Program and get NCCP credit. Work with a Coach mentor, Strength & Conditioning Specialist and Mental Performance Coach to take your athletes to the next level.

New training group starts April 4th

Ages 13-17 years of age

Train 2x/week for 12 weeks

$380.00 + GST

Grade 7 to 12  M & W 7:30-8:30pm or T & Th 6:30-7:30pm

Philosophy/Approach ASDC provides developmentally appropriate performance training based on sport science. Sessions are led by experienced and university educated Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS). Training develops the right physical attributes at the right time with focus on technical proficiency and movement mechanics to take you to the next level of sport.

Training Outcomes Develop attributes required for athletic success: strength, speed, power, agility, and quickness Decrease likelihood of injury Increase ability to train hard over a longer period of time.

The Piranhas are looking for swimmers:

 Aged 6 to 10 years old.

Confident in deep water.

Can complete 25m of Front crawl & Backstroke.
