HUD’s Office of Affordable Housing Program is pleased to offer deliveries of its current training series, CHDO Opportunities in HOME and PJ Peer Group, in Newark in late-May. More detailed information and registration links for each session are following with general information for both trainings

CHDO Opportunities in HOME

HUD’s Office of Affordable Housing Programs is pleased to offer a two-day course targeted to representatives of prospective Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) and new staff of existing CHDOs. CHDO Opportunities in HOME is a training on the HOME CHDO Program regulatory requirements, including:

  • The CHDO set-aside and the relationship between participating jurisdictions (PJs) and CHDOs;
  • Criteria an organization must meet to be designated as a CHDO;
  • Regulatory requirements pertaining to the development of homebuyer (i.e., for-sale) and rental housing;
  • Definition of a CHDO’s role as an owner, sponsor, or developer of housing; and
  • Incentives a PJ may provide to a CHDO, including operating, predevelopment assistance, and CHDO proceeds.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended as a general overview and is particularly suited to new CHDOs and new staff of existing CHDOs. PJ staff is welcome to register, but priority will be given to CHDO staff. PJ staff registration requests will not be confirmed until space availability is determined.

PJ Peer Group

HUD’s Office of Affordable Housing Programs (OAHP) is sponsoring a PJ Peer Group in Newark, NJ on issues surrounding Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) designation and capacity building.

This Peer Group session is a one-day in-person session that includes additional training for PJs and problem solving discussions. Attendees will be provided with “beta” versions of sample tools being developed for broader national publication and will be given the opportunity to provide input on what other tools PJs most need for assessing and building CHDO capacity.

Who Should Attend?

All PJs are invited to attend, but PJs will generally be limited to 2 participants. Attendance at a previous CHDO Opportunities in HOME course or the May 24-25, 2016 class prior to the PJ Peer Group is strongly encouraged.
