As spring approaches, our thoughts turn to soil monitoring (then again, we ARE a bit obsessed with it, all year round...) We thought it might be a good time to remind you what's new, and the range of solutions we offer for permanent or portable monitoring soil moisture, temperature, salinity and matric potential.

HydraProbe selected to be used in Canada’s RISMA Network for Agricultural Monitoring
A new study published in the Soil Science Society of America Journal investigated the field performance of 5 soil moisture instruments in heavy clay soils. The HydraProbe outperformed TDR and capacitance-based soil sensors in terms of stability and accuracy in Manitoba’s agricultural soil. Much of soil in the Canadian Prairie farmland is vertisolic. Calibration of a capacitance soil sensor is required to achieve the level of accuracy required for satellite ground truthing.
Why not make it easy with a non-capacitance based soil sensor like the HydraProbe?
This study, published in the American Meteorological Society's BAMS journal demonstrates the extent of variability in readings one can expect with a soil moisture sensor based on capacitance technology. Read more...
