Radioactive scissors, Ai Weiwei podcasts, and a new Global Plan for Pitt

Much is happening with the Asian Studies Center including the launch of our new quarterly alumni newsletter ASConnections. Through the newsletter, you can find out what the Center is doing, what our students are doing, and what your fellow alumni are doing.

We'd love to hear from you. Let us know what's new and how you'd like to connect with us—asia@pitt.edu

STRANGE BEAUTY: Autoradiography from Fukushima
To mark the 5th anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, ASC supported a pop-up exhibition at the University Art Gallery highlighting Takashi Morizumi's photography capturing the radioactive material found near Fukushima.

Open Doors:

Trip to Washington DC

The Asian Studies Center along with other area centers at UCIS took a group of students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, on a trip to Washington, DC, where they visited a number of government agencies and nonprofit organizations and met with locally-based UCIS alumni.

ANDY WARHOL +
AI WEIWEI

In collaboration with the Warhol museum, the Center is developing a series of podcasts to provide background context  for the upcoming exhibition that explores the significant influence of these two artists on modern life.

Students had the chance to see professional life in DC up close, gained valuable networking experience, and went home with valuable insight into prospective careers.

GLOBAL PLAN FOR PITT
The University Center for International Studies (UCIS) is leading the task to develop a new university-wide global plan that aligns with the objectives identified in the strategic plan. Over the last few months, UCIS has engaged various stakeholders in a highly participatory process, involving the Pitt community in frank and lively discussions on our internationalization.
