With spring coming to my area along with a healthy eating challenge, I'm feeling a tad more inspired to create, which feels good! And I'm trying to squeeze more 'exploration' into my sewing. The most recent project was inspired by an improv block for our guild's BOM, and boy did I have fun with it!

WHAT'S UP

As often happens, my work is influenced by something that's been mentioned in this newsletter, or vice versa. This last week it was the latter. Not previously having been a real fan of coin quilts, I grew fond of them through my Mighty Lucky Quilting Club project, So Wrong It's Gotta Be Right. Thus this issue's round-up - I hope you enjoy the wide variety of coin quilts!

WORTH A READ

:: Suzy/SuzyQuilts shares The Ultimate Guide to Quilt Sizes.

:: TWO very helpful tutorials from Chrissie/made by ChrissieDBeginner's Guide to Sewing Y-Seams and How to Repair Broken Quilting Stitches.

:: For those of you in the market, 7 Tips for Buying a Sewing Machine by Julie/the crafty quilter on sew mama sew.

:: One of the things I love about Anna/noodlehead's patterns is that she links to where she gets supplies for her projects - hardware, leather, special zips. Things just got better as Anna is now carrying leather handles in her shop, with more supplies to come.

:: And regarding the ongoing topic of creativity: What is Creative Flow and How Do We Get There? by Kathleen/Kathleen Warren Studio and from Lindsey/LRStitched10 Ways to Keep Creative Ideas Flowing.

ROUND-UP

Allison/Cluck Cluck Sew's Scrap Coin quilt, with it's white sashing between columns, is to me, the epitome of a classic coin quilt. [cluckclucksew]
Selvage Coins by Susan/Hanging On by a Needle and Thread takes the 'coins' in a new direction by using selvages.

Loud and Proud, made by Adele/bayougirlquilts and shared by Tanya/Tanya Quilts in Colorado is a bright and beautiful un-sashed coin quilt.
With my own Maisy quilt, also unsashed, I arranged the coins by value.
The Chinese Coin Quilt from Edeltraud/edeltraudewert
has a unique 'striped' sashing that gives it a whole different look!
And of course, a modern version from Nicole/Modern Handcraft. Her Read Between the Lines alternates the colorful coins with a text fabric, then the columns of coins are set with plenty of negative space.

Then there's Svetlana/s.o.t.a.k handmade, who tweaks the orientation of her coin columns in the most delightful way in her Modern Coins

ON TREND

Maybe it's just me, but improv seems all the rage these days more than ever. Not everyone's brave enough to even attempt it, but more often than not, they're at least intrigued by it. Having participated in the improv bee, Bee Sewcial, over the last year has definitely made me more comfortable. Here's a few tutorials for techniques worth mastering for your improv 'tool belt.'

P.S. Of course, there's a new Coin Quilts pin board on Pinterest! I've also recently begun Color Wheels, Word Quilts, and Kraft Tex. There's always something new to explore, right?
