Report on 3/15 Jazz workshop with DMTA
From Marilyn Pinschmidt, Programs:

Thanks to the Durham Music Teachers Association for their program on jazz with Stephen Anderson at UNC. Dr. Anderson provided detailed hand-outs and hands-on exercises as well as his own delightful examples on the piano!
Although a few jazz teachers attended, many others had their classical minds challenged and energized by this presentation which included an overview of jazz styles, jazz chords and rhythms, and the overall discipline involved.Thank you, Dr. Anderson!

About 15 attended, 5 from CHMTA.

Chamber Music Master Class with Paul Watkins of the Emerson String Quartet

12 pm — Baldwin Auditorium, Duke University

Paul Watkins enjoys a distinguished career as cellist and conductor. He was appointed principal cellist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1990 at the age of 20. He now performs regularly with all the major British orchestras and many overseas orchestras including the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the RAI National Symphony Orchestra of Turin. A member of the Nash Ensemble from 1997 to 2013, Mr. Watkins joined the Emerson String Quartet in May 2013.
This master class is presented in association with Duke Performances.

Performance of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time at UNC-CH  April 10

UNC-CH music faculty Thomas Otten, Nicholas DiEugenio, Brent Wissick and Donald Oehler will perform Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time in Gerrard Hall on the UNC-CH campus, at 7:30 PM on Sunday, April 10.  Admission is free. The performance is in honor of this remarkable work's 75th anniversary (1941), and will also feature a discussion of the work by musicology professor Andrea Bohlman.  This is one of the great chamber works of the 20th century, written while Messiaen was imprisoned in a German concentration camp.  In 8 movements and roughly one hour long, the work is highly spiritual and references Christianity and birdsong, both trademarks of Messiaen's unique style.

 Accompanist needed:
I am seeking a classically trained pianist to play for my Sacred Movement Classes. The movements are choreographed in sacred geometry, and the music, in the appropriate key for each sacred dance, has already been selected. I would mail you, or hand you, the sheet music. Some of the music is quite easy and some is very difficult, therefore the amount of practice time will vary. Two hours on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, and some weekday evenings, once or twice per month. $100 each 2 hour session. I am an experienced teacher, and have experience working with pianists, and love it!
Please call or write me to schedule an interview. Kelly Calegar 919-361-0691 kcalegar@earthlink.net
