PTSA Mission Statement

The mission of the Spiritridge Elementary PTSA is to support and strengthen the Spiritridge commUNITY and provide enrichment opportunities for our students. We facilitate information exchange between and among our parents, teachers, and students. We promote parental involvement and a strong partnership with the school, which is essential to the success of our students.

Lost and Found Wants to be Found

It's that time again...our lost and found is overflowing!!
 
We have all sorts of lost clothing and items on display in the hallway by the gym...please come see if your child's lost something is there!!   Many of you will be attending your child’s music concert in these last few weeks of March.   Please take a moment to look through the racks.   All items will be donated during spring break.

Spring Pictures

The date for spring pictures is March 29.  As this is not our primary picture event (which was in the fall), order forms will not go home with each child.  Instead, if you are interested in having your child take a spring picture, order forms are available in the school office. 

You may be a bit confused thinking that we have already had our Picture Day in the fall.  We did!  Please be clear that this picture day is supplemental.  You may choose to have your child participate in this round of pictures just as a bonus or if your child missed fall pictures.


Group photos will not be taken on this day.
 

Multicultural Night

Please join us for the annual Spiritridge Multicultural Night on Friday April 15th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the MPR.
 
This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our school.  We will have cultural performances on stage, table displays from different countries, and a potluck dinner.

Sign Up For Fashion Show and Performances (new!)
In addition to a line-up of fabulous performances by Spiritridge students and community showcasing cultures and traditions from around the world, this year we will be offering a Fashion Show of traditional costumes. Check out the attached flyers for the Fashion Show and the Performances for more details. If your child or group would like to participate, fill out the registration forms or contact Michelle Escobar at mabescobar@gmail.com . You won't want to miss out! Spots are filling up fast!
 
Create our cultural buffet. 
Sample foods from around the world!  Families are encouraged to bring their family’s favorite dish – bites, entrees, snacks and/or dessert!  Please be sure to list ingredients with your item.  For more information, contact Betty at bettymariam@gmail.com.
 
Visit the global village
Design a display, artwork, or activity representing your heritage or favorite vacation destination country!  Contact Sheryl at sherylpinheiro@hotmail.com if interested in doing a display for your country.
 
Volunteer

Academic Challenge
The academic challenge activity is to decorate the paper doll template with a cultural outfit and to answer a questionnaire.  Download the Paper Doll Template and Guidelines for Multicultural Event documents for more information.  Due date for academic challenge is Tuesday, March 29th.  If you have no computer access there will be forms at the front desk with Linda Porter. Everyone (adults too) is encouraged to come dressed in your country/region’s traditional clothing.


Music Concert Dates - All Grades

 
Here are the dates from our music teacher at Spiritridge, Pam Faletto, for this year’s K-4 music concerts. In response to parent feedback regarding the issues of crowds and the inability to see their children from the audience, grade levels that have more than 3 classes are divided into two nights for performances. 

Wednesday, March 30
  • 6:30 pm AT SPIRITRIDGE: SECOND GRADE music concert (MAKOWSKI, DRAKE, OKAWA)
  • 7:30 pm AT SPIRITRIDGE: FOURTH GRADE music concert (GEGWICH, GUILFORD) and all MARIMBA CLUB members
Thursday, March 31
  •  6:30 pm AT SPIRITRIDGE: SECOND GRADE music concert (RUFF, YOUNG, REIMERGARTIN)
  •  7:30 pm AT SPIRITRIDGE: FOURTH GRADE music concert (OKURI, HOLTHAUS/KURTZ) and all MARIMBA CLUB members 

Smarter Balanced Assessments
 
This will be our second year of administering the online Smarter Balanced tests in English Language Arts and Math to all students in grades 3-8. Smarter Balanced tests are aligned with the Common Core State Standards, and they have replaced the previous state MSP tests.  The Washington Comprehensive Assessment Program website contains lots of test-related resources for parents and students:http://wa.portal.airast.org/. From this site, you can also try out a Smarter Balanced practice or training test.  For more information, contact the principal or Chris Lindberg, the district’s manager of state testing, at lindbergc@bsd405.org.

Lip Sync Thank You!

Thank you everyone who came out to see our Spiritridge students perform in the annual Lip Sync last Friday.  This is one of the kids favorite events, and everyone had a great time.  There were 40 acts plus two special performances by Ms. Guilford's class and alumni during intermission.  We want to thank everyone that helped make this event successful.  We had lots of teen and parent volunteers helping in many ways!  Thank you Danae Alexander, Riley & Sydney Quick, Matt Woo, Grave Bravo, Sasha Phasavath, Amy Martinez, Juju Eulensen-Wallace, Brent & Dinah Quick, Kohana Aisaka, Avery Kwik, Sophia Lowe-Hines, Kelsey Burks, Kelly Mumma, Nina Sanidad, Adam King, Kathy Meng, Betsy Vo, Manisha Taneja, Zohrah Ghorishi, Anusha Varadarajan, Edna Gosage, Anne Pham, Heitor Teixeira, Josselyn Salas, Annel Medina, Miae Aramori, Jennifer Topel, and most importantly our emcee for the night Brian Taibl!!!  We look forward to seeing you next year!

Sammamish High School Baseball Camp

The Sammamish High School baseball team is hosting a 1 day baseball camp for 1st - 8th grade boys on April 9th.  It will be a fun, great opportunity for students to check out the program, meet and interact with the coaches and learn some new baseball skills.  See flyer for details.

Sue Acuna, veteran teacher and co-author of Middle school: The Inside Story will share tips to help navigate your student through classes, home life, relationships, entitlement and social media.

Summer Camp at Music Works

Students from ages 4 to 16 are invited to join us this summer at Music Works Northwest to learn, collaborate, make music, and have fun! We have camps for all ages and abilities, weekly from June 27th through August 19.  Younger students will love our I Love Music camps, where they’ll explore music from around the country through singing, instrument playing, games, and songwriting, as well as the Gotta Sing! Voice Camp, where young singers are introduced to vocal technique and work on their performance skills. Teens and pre-teens can live out their dreams of being the next Taylor Swift in our Pop Voice Camp, learn how to compose their own music in Computer Composition Camp, or get a chance to work with other young musicians in the Orchestra Jam Camp, Jazz Camp, Piano Ensemble Camp, or Rock Shop! We also offer music therapy camps for special needs students. Extended care is available for most sessions, as is financial aid. Newport HS Gymnastics Summer Camp

The Newport High School Gymnastics Team will be offering a summer camp June 27-June 30 (morning session: 9-noon or afternoon session: 1-4:00). We invite boys and girls of any skill level entering grades K-6 who want to do gymnastics!  Groups will be divided by age and skill level. Camp is located at Newport High School in the Outside Gym. Cost: $150, $40 discount for siblings who register at the same time (2 siblings = $260). Early bird discount of $10 for those who register by May 16th! Theater Works Summer Camp

Sponge Language Summer Camp

Hola! Ni Hao! Summer will be here before you know it, and it's time to start getting camp plans in order - we're excited to offer language immersion camps in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. This year, we'll be exploring exotic destinations, cuisines, environments, and celebrations from around the globe. Our dynamic teachers will lead campers in crafts, games, cooking, science, drama, and outdoor play. It's an excellent opportunity to keep up language over the summer, or to try something totally new! 

Week long camps will be offered at Bellevue Montessori School and the Parkside School in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, from June 20-July 22.  Camps are open to K-2nd grade students, and run 9am-3pm.  Aftercare is available until 5pm.  For more information and to register for camp, visit us online at  www.spongeschool.com/sign-up/summer-camp-2016/.  Bellevue Parks Cheerleading Program

Come join the fun with the Bellevue Parks Cheerleading Program. Summer camps are offered for all experience levels, ages 5-14. Join the Family Book Club in Spanish!

A reading program in Spanish for children ages 5 to 10 accompanied by their families. Learn through discussion and fun activities. Analyze stories, learn new vocabulary, and develop critical thinking and comprehension skills in Spanish.

2016 SIFF Youth Juries Call For Applications

SIFF Education invites youth to participate in our Films4Families (Ages 8-12) and FutureWave (Ages 13-18) juries during the 2016 Seattle International Film Festival (May 19 - Jun 12). Watch up to eight feature films during the festival, select the best film with your peers and get additional free tickets! Free Green Cleaning Workshops

The City of Bellevue is offering five special green clean workshops this spring. These fun, hands-on classes cover information on avoiding toxic cleaners and resources for making your own green cleaners. Attendees will receive a free green cleaning kit to take home. Adults and children over 7 are welcome to attend. If you would like to attend, registration is required. Please email recycle@bellevuewa.gov or call 425-452-6932 to register. Spaces are limited to 20 people per session. First come, first served.
