For me, it’s now all about the monthly newsletter

After years of exhausting myself on the treadmill of trying to write and record an album in private, rehearse it in private and then cram as much live performance and promotion as possible before collapsing and starting the process again, I’ve taken a leaf out of Charles Dickens’s playbook and started serialising. For me now, it is all about creating new music, writing articles on art that I love, recommending other people’s works, listing gigs, and generally making all the things I would like to hear and read as a fan (rather than what’s convenient to promote as an artist). On the last day of each month I put this all in a newsletter and send it out to the world. And I think because of this, I’ve never enjoyed the process of creating more. I hope you enjoy this newsletter too.

Data Protection

As I understand it, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) exists to make spam as difficult as possible, and I believe that’s a wonderful thing. I have always had a big button at the bottom of each newsletter saying ‘Unsubscribe’, because I’d hate to be part of anyone’s spam mountain. (Figurative spam mountain - a genuine mountain made of spam sounds kind of intriguing.) Anyway, I've tried to keep the text as close to the legal text that Mailchimp suggests, but… I will keep your email address only to send you these monthly newsletters. I won't share it with any third party (aside from Mailchimp, obviously). I won't use it to target you with adverts. I won't use it as part of a wider marketing campaign. This is for the newsletter, and that's all.
