Dear Mile in My Shoes family, Welcome to our very first supporter newsletter! We hope that this new format will be a fun & manageable way to keep you updated with all the fantastic news from our MiMS team(s) while also getting you the 411 on future events & ways to support our members. If you know someone who you think would like to like to receive these emails, please send me their email address so I can add them to the mailing list!
The 2016 MiMS Season is well underway, with 14 Residential Members & over 40 (!) Run Mentors joining up for Cycle 1! In the first two weeks as a team we've already run our first timed mile, gathered for our first team meeting, chosen our new Team Captain, and taken a field trip to MAGNA Fitness, where founder & trainer Jen Halstead taught us the importance of strength training (aka whooped our butts!).
The next two months of Cycle 1 will see our Run Mentors come together for a Homelessness Education/Advocacy event, two more field trips to MAGNA (yoga & running drills), Saturday long runs starting in May, and LOTS of preparation for the cycle's ultimate goal: The MiMS 5K/10K race on June 4th. And of course, the bread & butter of Mile in My Shoes: The 6am morning runs. As one new Residential Member put it: "Mile in My Shoes is my morning coffee. It gets me up, it's fun, and now I'm not sure how I get through the day without it."
Thanks for your continued support of Mile in My Shoes! Check out all the news below, and until next month …
Hugs,
Mishka Vertin
