News from the Center

Today, April 6, is Doc Edgerton’s birthday. Born in 1903, he’d have turned 113 years old today. While much has changed since Doc’s time at MIT, what remains the same is our faith in what students can do. A few examples in this issue include the MIT Hyperloop team clinching the design phase of Elon Musk's competition by building a pod to transport passengers at the speed of sound; engaging students from the Beverly School for the Deaf in hands-on engineering challenges; and providing an environment for girls from the Bayen Garden School in Saudi Arabia to discover an appreciation for forensic science. See us in action on April 23 at MIT's Open House.

Established in 1992, the MIT Edgerton Center continues the hands-on legacy of Harold “Doc” Edgerton by giving students opportunities to learn by doing. The Center’s programs include subjects in engineering and imaging for students and professionals, student-led clubs and teams, student machine shops, the international-development program D-Lab, and a year-round K–12 science and engineering outreach program.
