RiDE LiKE A GiRL Part I
THIS SUNDAY! Woohoo!

The first of our 3-part women's bicycling workshop series kicks off this Sunday, April 10th!

Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, with generous support from Bike East Bay, presents RiDE LiKE A GiRL, a 3-part bicycling skills workshop series designed for every woman who wants to ride. This first workshop (April 10th) focuses on commuting basics, just in time for Bike Month (May) and Bike To Work Day (May 12, 2016).

Meet us at Fruitvale BART Bike Station around 12:30 for safety checks. Workshop begins at 1pm. We will dedicate the majority of our time on the road to practice on all kinds of bikeways and turning movements.  Bring your bike + helmet, stories of biking past and a smile.

Meet EMiLY, our 2015 RLAG All-Star!

This is a photo of Emily Wheeler just one year ago in our very first RiDE LiKE A GiRL workshop.  That day she said she wanted to “go from being someone who mostly drives to someone who mostly bikes.”

We can’t take all the credit, but Emily is out there on the road today, pedaling away; and we love to see her face at bike events around town.

Every woman is warmly welcomed at our workshops! Suggested donations accepted here: https://squareup.com/market/walk-oakland-bike-oakland/ride-like-a-girl
If you're already a WOBO or Bike East Bay member, it's on us.

Get more info on our first workshop on our RLAG Facebook page.

Future workshop dates:

June 12 - focusing on choosing the right bike(s); and a 10-12 mile flatfish ride.
November 13 - how to prepare for going on longer rides, say like touring local wineries...like the secret Bay Area spots we'll take you to during the 20-ish mile ride (details still in the works but stay tuned)

Love spending quality time with other women who ride bikes?  Join us for our second ever Women Bike Happy Hour at Bar César (4039 Piedmont Ave.) the fourth Thursday of the month, April 28 from 5:30 on.   Tell your friends!

Telegraph and Grand Ave Bike Lanes Coming--really!

Strap on your helmet and saddle up to take a roll through the hottest new bike lanes in Oakland before Bike To Work Day.

Before May 12, Bike to Work Day, new bike lanes should be striped on Telegraph Avenue in the KONO District and Grand Avenue in the Grand Lake District. The new lanes on Telegraph are parking-protected bike lanes, Oakland's first of this kind. This project is a signature project of ours and has been many years, too many years, in the making. And while we are not satisfied the Grand Ave bike lanes stop at Mandana Blvd., getting these lanes on the ground will build more support for their completion to existing bike lanes west of 580.

Join Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, Bike East Bay, countless volunteers and, hopefully, Mayor Libby Schaaf, Councilmembers and Public Works Agency staff on May 9th (date is tentative) for a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration, complete with bike ride and happy hour at Telegraph Beer Garden!

Bike East Bay is looking for some friendly volunteers to help folks acclimate to the new look and feel of Telegraph Ave. (one hour shifts with other fun people).

Bike To Work Day, May 12th!

Pedal Pools, Pancakes and People on bikes, Oh my!

Fingers crossed for beautiful sunny skies on May 12, Bike To Work Day.  WOBO is once again hosting the baddest (and freest) pancake breakfast at City Hall (Frank Ogawa Plaza). And we're bringing in 20 to 30 of our closest transportation agency friends and bike-friendly businesses to make it a blast!

Mark it on your calendar and schedule a spring tune-up because Bike Month will be here before you know it.

Sign up to help us out this year. We're looking for bag handlers, pancake flippers, bike ride leaders, and extra pairs of hands to set up and table with us. (A sure way to score one of those coveted "Volunteer" T-shirts...)

Got a bike-friendly activity or bike commute tools and tips to share? Let us know

Every 2nd Saturday & the following Sunday of the month!

SATURDAY! APRIL 9th

This is a hilly walk, and includes a number of long staircases.

The walk begins at 10AM at the Firestorm Memorial Garden near the Bentley School at 1 Hiller Drive. Be prepared for variable conditions and bring drinking water.

Heavy rain cancels, light rain - forge on. Check the OUP website for updates.
Note: This walk was scheduled for March, but rescheduled because of the weather.

This year we are moving our Volunteer Meet-ing to Farley's East (33 Grand Ave.) so we can all relax with a cup of espresso while we talk upcoming events.  We'll get things started around 6pm.
