Enrichment Scholarships for Low-Income Middle Schoolers!
SLED is excited to partner with the Lampert Family Foundation in bringing “Youth Opportunity Scholarships” to middle schoolers at Bancroft & John Muir middle schools. These scholarships help low-income students access fee-based enrichment programs such as dance, music, sports, and more! The scholarships are available up to $250 ($500 for camps).
To be eligible the applicant must be a low-income student in 6th thru 8th grade and have not received a Youth Opportunity Scholarship before. And yes, kids entering 6th grade or 9th grade in the Fall are eligible!
The application is short and includes a simple personal statement from the student explaining why the they want to enroll in a particular program. You can find the application on our website here, as well as an FAQ and local resource guide. Applications are due April 29, 2016 and can be turned in to the Parent Facilitator at the John Muir or Bancroft school office.
SLHS Urinetown, The Musical Opens Tonight
Winner of three Tony Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective of one of America's greatest art forms.
