Department Announcements

Undergraduate Program Review

The Department of Statistics will be undergoing Undergraduate Program Review on Monday, April 4th and Tuesday, April 5th. Program Reviews occur every few years in order to address the strengths and needs of programs on campus.  An important part of this review is student feedback.  We will be holding two group sessions wherein you will be able to provide your feedback about the Statistics undergraduate program to two outside reviewers. Your participation is very important to our department. If you would like to participate please complete the form below to sign up for the session you will be attending.
  • Session 1:  Monday, April 4th 12:30-1:30 (MSB 1147)
    • Lunch will be provided (Woodstock's Pizza)
  • Session 2: Tuesday, April 5th 9:45-10:45 (MSB 1147)
    • Breakfast will be provided (University Catering)

Opportunities/Internships

Undergraduate Research Position-Barlow Lab

Interested in genetics, genomics, and next-generation sequencing technology?

The Barlow Lab is looking for a highly motivated student with programming skills to join the lab. The Barlow lab studies how the process of DNA replication can lead to DNA breaks and rearrangements, generally termed genome instability. Genome instability is a hallmark of cancer, but little is known about why specific sites of DNA break again and again. We use next-generation sequencing (NGS) data to determine where DNA breaks occur in response to defects in DNA replication and what makes these regions so fragile. Students will work with a lab member to write unique programs to analyze NGS data, and perform statistical analyses. The successful candidate will have experience in 1 or more programming languages (perl, C, C++, or R), and experience using statistics. The position can be either for credit (099/199 Independent Research) or a part-time job, depending on experience and availability.

Please send a resume and a cover letter stating relevant experience and research interests to Dr. Jacqueline Barlow (jhbarlow@ucdavis.edu) for consideration.
