Myanmar Last Week

I had the privilege of visiting Myanmar for Global Hope to meet our new country director and intern and also the project sites where we support children from various hilltribes. One-third of Myanmar is comprised of various ethnic groups that have been systematically marginalized by the Burmese-dominant government. Burma is the name of the dominant ethnic group that England partnered with when it colonized and made Burma into a larger country. Pictured above is children from a home that we might support; they're not trying to be all gangsta, but they fold their arms as a show of respect. My young friend Jeremiah pointed that out in his first visit to Myanmar, which I had failed to notice during my past visits :)

Jeremiah is a 3rd grade teacher from Virginia; he raised funds from his public school to make donations to a preschool operating in the slums of Yangon and also to Help Live in Thailand. He had been bringing mission teams here since his college days and is continuing to be a blessing for us.

Precious Phone

I also got to visit MCTS (Myanmar Center for Theological Studies), which Dr Cho (GH founder and direc) helped found a long time ago with Dr Aung Mang. The telephone pictured above is still being used in the seminary office, for which Dr Cho had to raise $3,500 to purchase back when things were astronomically more pricey. The seminary continues to be in need of financial help, and it made me feel sad to see the professors and their families still living in bamboo huts while being so close to Yangon.
