minima wins established designer category at dti furniture competition

When minima began as a series of sketches in 2012, it wasn’t then clear what it would morph into. Fast forward four years and today we’ve released two ranges of timber ceiling lights, a set of bar stools and a table chair. We’ve also extended our cnc cut, clip-together system to a 2.4m x 1.2m wooden bench, which we entered into the dti’s annual furniture design competition.

Its 2016 theme was “Future Public Spaces” and it invited students and established designers to submit a seating and waiting solution for public spaces, government institutions such as airports, health institutions, municipalities and other government entities that interact with the public in one way or another.

We’re delighted to announce that our bench won the established designer category, cementing our venture into alternative pieces of indoor and outdoor furniture. The win has buoyed us to design a range of interior pieces that are both once-off features as well as functional for everyday use. Watch this space.

minimalism gains momentum
In other news, our new range of timber lights hit the shelves so to speak in January following engaging leading design and décor media. We gifted top journalists with a Sieza light from our new range and are pleased to report that it was met with much enthusiasm. So far we’ve been featured in Ideas/ Idees magazine, Lighting in Design, Fair Lady as well as on the Lanalou Style Blog; more is expected in coming months.
What this says to us is that the minimalism trend is in full swing – that’s pretty clear from the sheer volume of hotels, bars and restaurants that have made-over their interiors to reflect a simpler, more sophisticated and clean style. Our lights feature in a number of these. We’re proud to be part of the movement.

As we head into Autumn, it’s time to put our head down and gear up for the annual trade shows happening in Winter and Spring. We’ll be at the Inspire trade show in Johannesburg in June, and as part of the CBI programme, SARCDA in Johannesburg in August and Maison & Objet during Paris Design Week in September.

If you’re at any of these events, do come and say hi.

Jacques
