The Beehive School for
Mindfulness, Meditation & Contemplation Studies

with John F. Doherty
Spring Newsletter 2016

Dear <<First Name>>,

Its great to get the extra light in the sky and some longer days with the sun attempting to break through. Mind you these days with the current weather I'm reminded of the Mindfulness acronym R.A.I.N. (Recognise, Accept, Investigate and Non-attachment:).

It's been a busy time between work and home life (parenting the 3 small kids) but full of joy, love and dirty nappies. The twins recently had their first birthday so we were delighted to reach that milestone. Two happy boys full of energy and two happy parents full of sleep deprivation! I hope one day the boys will be able to match the second picture above!

I was teaching recently a course entitled "Into Great Love" (based on my Double CD)  in the Carmelite Monastery in Delgany Greystones. The course was 8 weeks long every Monday evening and had a great attendance. I really enjoy exploring the Mystical side of life while using mindfulness practices to make it accessible to everyone.A big thank you to Paul Thornton the parish pastoral worker for organising it.

I'll be running "Into Great Love" again as a summer school (July 4th - 8th July Monday to Friday 10.30am to 1pm) in Wicklow Town in the Dominican Ecology centre "An Tairseach". If you are interested let me know, there will be overnight options available at a reduced rate also.

Eckhart Tolle author of  "The Power of Now" says real freedom only comes in two stages. Firstly, to develop a loving kind observer of yourself (mindfulness) and secondly to connect to oneness (the mystical bit:). We have an Eckhart workshop coming up on the 7th of May in The Suaimhneas Centre. Click here to find out more.

Sr. Stan Kennedy has also asked me to run the "Into Great Love" course over 5 weeks in The Sanctuary Centre in September on Wednesday evenings starting Wednesday 14th September.

In was a real honour and privilege for me to facilitate the Salesians on their chapter meeting at Easter where I could use some of these practices with them. I love the Salesian mission of working with the young people and those that are disadvantaged. My wife Maria Lopez went to a Salesian school in Madrid and said it was the best education she could ever have. Its based on Don Bosco's preventative system and really celebrates the child.

It was great to catch up with my old colleague from my Milltown Institute days - Jack Finnegan. Jack is a huge resource and if you ever need guidance in the world of academia and spirituality he's the man to talk to. His latest book "The Audacity of Spirit" is available in Veritas.

My supervision group in Mater Dei is coming to a close for the year 2015/2016 and I wish the trainee chaplains all the best in their careers in prisons, schools and parishes.

My next teaching will be in the Luinse centre in Greystones for 10 weeks, a course entitled "The Art of Deep Stillness" This course starts this coming Tuesday evening and runs for 5 weeks and then another 5 weeks. To find out more click here.

A congradulations goes to Maria my wife recently who gave a talk to a packed house at the Positive Living Network. Gratitude to Jenny Grainger and her team for organising these events every month at the Grand Canal Hotel.

Her talk was on bring Empowered in your life and what that means. Maria and myself are offering another course on Empowered Relationships starting in April, details are below.

Hope you can make it to some of the events I have on -
