- support transformational healthcare to develop services
- enhance patient experience
- improve clinical outcomes
- secure value for money
- deliver the best evidence-based care, and
- address health inequalities
The day was introduced by Professor
Kamlesh Khunti, CLAHRC EM Director, who reiterated the central importance of collaboration and partnership working at the heart of everything we do. Kamlesh also highlighted how CLAHRC EM is successfully implementing evidence and proven innovations into practice, helping the regional NHS build capacity to conduct and implement research, and engaging patients and the public - an exemplar of the latter being the East Midlands Centre for Black and Minority Ethnic Health (
EMCBMEH).
Delegates also heard from:
- Karen Glover, our Director of Partner Relations & Operations, on how we work together with partners on shared priorities;
- Dr Rebecca Fisher, Senior Research Fellow, who outlined how CLAHRC EM in general - and our REVIHR stroke study in particular - is bridging the gap from 'bench to bedside';
- Senior Research Nurse/CLAHRC PhD Sarah Brand and Health Partnerships General Manager Sharman Aldridge on the fundamental importance of developing research capacity within the local NHS - and why the NHS should invest in activities that support this aim; and
- our outgoing Public Involvement lead Dr Paula Wray and CLAHRC PhD Naina Patel on the importance of public involvement and engaging communities in research activity.
In the afternoon a series of 'Partner Case Study Showcases' provided a range of external perspectives on the partnership working at the heart of CLAHRC EM, including insights from the NHS Provider, NHS Commissioner, industry, public health, university and East Midlands Partner Organisation (
EMPO) perspectives.
Presentations from the day are now available on the CLAHRC EM website.
Other news
New publications
CLAHRC EM has recently published three new documents aimed at external audiences.
Our
Study Portfolio sets out all of our core studies plus associated PhD projects across our five inter-related themes. The document is easy to navigate, with research studies classified by disease area/subject: cardiovascular disease, caring for older people and stroke survivors, diabetes, implementing evidence and improvement, lifestyle interventions, mental health, renal disease and respiratory disease.
Our
Student Placement Brochure sets out opportunities for pre- and post- registration healthcare students to undertake placements with CLAHRC East Midlands and the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) - two of the organisations that work across the East Midlands to drive healthcare improvement and transformation. We recognise the importance of building a workforce that has the skills, knowledge and experience to provide the best possible future healthcare services – and with this in mind we have joined forces to offer joint placements for pre- and post-registration healthcare students.
Our
Offer Document sets out our varied and wide ranging offer to a range of sectors, including industry, academia, the NHS, patients and the public and the CLAHRC EM
Faculty. CLAHRC EM can work with partners in a number of ways, for example co-conducting research, translation activities (e.g. Networks of Practice, Knowledge Brokers) and through our Faculty.
