New Texas Trucking Association Chair Advocates More Natural Gas Vehicles
Danny Smith, incoming chair of the Texas Trucking Association, is working with the Texas Natural Gas Foundation to reach out to fleets about transitioning to natural gas.  His company,
UPS, has announced plans to build an additional 12 compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations and add 380 new CNG tractors to its fleet. Four of the new TruStar refueling stations will be in Texas, including Amarillo, Fort Worth, El Paso and San Antonio.
TXNG Map Shows How Energy Fuels Public Education
The map tells the story. Of the 1,019 Texas school districts reporting property taxes to the Comptroller, more than 775 depend on property taxes from energy production to help fund their operations. The Texas Natural Gas Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin and the State Energy Conservation Office, is developing a curriculum that will educate students about Texas energy and show how it is making the world a better place to live. The new curriculum will help Texas students, teachers and the general public gain a new appreciation for energy resources and take pride in how their state is making the world a better place to live.
Texas Emissions Reduction Plan Grant Update
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality staff reports that the FY2016 award announcements for the New Technology Implementation Grant (NTIG) Program, the Clean Transportation Triangle (CTT) Program and Alternative Fueling Facilities Program (AFFP) are expected by mid-May.
TXNG Board Meets with Alex Epstein
The Texas Natural Gas Foundation participated in a discussion with Alex Epstein, author of The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels, to discuss the need for new energy education that illustrates how natural gas and other fossil fuels have actually helped us - not harmed us - by giving us longer lives, cleaner air and water, safer habitats and a less destructive natural environment. Epstein noted that, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, air pollution in the US has declined since 1970, despite increased reliance on fossil fuels, especially natural gas.
Photo Contest - Natural Gas Vehicles
Help TXNG raise public awareness about natural gas by participating in the beta version of our photo contest!  Text, email or post a picture of a natural gas fleet vehicle in use in your area (refueling stations excluded) on TXNG's Facebook or Instagram page, and tag it #txnaturalgas. Send in pictures of as many different natural gas vehicles as you see, and make sure to tag their location!  A video interview with the driver gives you double points. After you've helped us tweak the beta version, we'll roll it out statewide as part of our education curriculum.
