Dec 2010 noodlies

noodlies Sydney food blog e-newsletter

The past month has been a whirlwind of cuisine that highlights multicultural Sydney.
Starting with a Turkish odyssey in Auburn at wonderful restaurants like Sofra and Mado.
Then there was fine Japanese food with Uchi Lounge, Izakaya Arigato and the current crowd favourite, Menya Mappen.
Since it's summer, we had some beer or should I say, bier at Bavarian Bier Cafe.
And it wouldn't be noodlies without some mention of Pho.  In this case, it's Pho 54, one of the longest established Vietnamese restaurants in Cabramatta.
It's all recorded in video and on Youtube now that noodlies has a new Youtube channel!
Enjoy reading this bumper issue of noodlies e-newsletter.
Keep an eye out for the next edition which will be all about noodlies Asia eating tour...

Until then, happy eating!

PS. A big thank you to everyone who's supported noodlies -  we're in urbanspoon's top 10 Sydney food blog. Hugs, kisses and thanks also to noodlies contributors KLui and Walter Mason.

Eat Street, Chatswood Central

Eat Street, Chatswood CentralEat Street is a new restaurant precinct that's part of the new Chatswood Central station development, high profile eateries like Mamak, Crazy Wings and Bavarian Bier Cafe join established fine dining establishments like Rocket Restaurant that's been there for almost a decade.  I was invited recently on a progressive dinner to sample the best of Eat Street.

uchi loungeUchi Lounge is that stunning beauty that you think you know so well, but the closer you get to her, the more intriguing and mysterious she becomes... she beguiling, bewitching and before you know it, she makes you fall in love with her again and again.  I got the chance to re-acquaint myself with her recently and am smitten.

Menya MappenThe concept is simple: queue on the left hand side, pick your drink, noodles and move along to select your sides like pickles and a wonderful array of tempura.  Then find a seat.  From ordering to getting a seat it was only minutes, despite the longish queue.  It's DYI Japanese, and Sydney is lapping Menya Mappen up.

duy linh vegetarianNoodlies welcomes a new contributor, Walter Mason, author of Destination Saigon, who shares with us the top vegetarian restaurants in Cabramatta.  Walter is currently in Phnom Penh researching his next travel book, Destination Cambodia.

Pho 54 CabramattaIt's not Studio 54, but Pho 54 is as hip and almost as retro.  It's been around for at least 20 years and it has been continuously popular, aided by a very loyal fan base that promote the restaurant through word of mouth.

turkish coffeeA visit to Auburn recently turned into a Turkish food odyssey. I started with shish kebab at Sofra - the mixed plate was divine.   The tour ended wonderfully at Mado Cafe where I had Maras and black mulberry ice cream.  It all went down perfectly with a cup of Turkish coffee.

flip mino 8gbRecently got a Flip MinoHD video camera and it's hard to describe how much I love it and what a difference it's made to noodlies food blog.  I reckon every serious blogger should consider getting one, click here for my video argument (well we are talking about video after all). Visit my brand new noodlies youtube channel.

noodlies sbs featured foodieThanks SBS for selecting me as the November featured food blogger. Read the feature to find out why I started noodlies and what Vietnamese food says about Vietnamese culture.  SBS also asked me to compile a list of the best Pho restaurants around Australia, it's here.

Reclining BuddhaNext Edition: This week, I will be off on a four week eating eating tour of Asia that will take me to Bangkok, Siem Riep, Phnom Penh and Hong Kong.  I'll be reviewing Michelin star restaurants like the newly opened Nahm (BKK), Ming Court (HK) as well as the street food that we all know and love.  Coming up in the next e-newsletter!
