FRANCESCO ZIZOLA WINS IL PREMIOLINO 2016 

Journalism Award

For his series 'In the same boat', Francesco Zizola has won the prestigious Italian journalism award, Il Premiolino. In August and September 2015 Francesco Zizola was on board of MSF Bourbon Argos, documenting the rescue of over three thousand migrants. With this series, Francesco Zizola has also won World Press Photo 2016 and this year's edition of Pictures of the Year International.

Join NOOR Photographers Yuri Kozyrev, Bénédicte Kurzen & Sebastián Liste for an evening exploring visual journalism and documentary practice. Yuri Kozyrev will discuss his coverage of the Arab Uprisings. Bénédicte Kurzen will share her work in Nigeria. And Sebastián Liste will present his ongoing project on crime, punishment and security in Latin America. The lecture is part of the NOOR-Nikon Kazakhstan 2016 Masterclass.

EL INFIERNO MÁS BONITO QUE CONOZCO

Child mortality in Chad

In Chad, 1 out of 5 children die before reaching the age of 5. Pep Bonet spent eight days at Saint Joseph’s hospital in Bébédja, documenting Dr. Jorge Muñoz’s daily work in the pediatric ward. 
His photos are part of ‘El infierno más bonito que conozco’, a collection of the diaries Dr.Jorge Muñoz wrote during his trips to Chad. The proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the NGO Ayuda al Chad.

HOMELAND
UICA, Michigan. March 26-May 10


Nina Berman's images on USA gun culture are part of 'Unloaded', a collective exhibition exploring the historical and social issues surrounding the availability, use and impact of guns on culture and public health.
Nina Berman's work examines security as a form of state sponsored performance art, merging ideology, propaganda and entertainment. A selection of new and archival images from Nina Berman's Homeland series have also been published in The Baffler, Issue 30 'Panic!'.



WOMEN'S LAND RIGHTS

Planet Café, The Hague. March 8-April

For ActionAid, Kadir van Lohuizen has been documenting the consequences of land grabbing and the importance of land rights in Mozambique. The ‘Women’s land rights in the picture’ exhibition sheds light on the inspiring stories of women who, thanks to the support of ActionAid, have organized in cooperatives to fight for their land rights.


VIA PANAM
CCGE, Guatemala. March 8-April 11


Via Panam, Kadir van Lohuizen's long-term project on migration in the Americas, opened this month  in Guatemala. Escuela Taller Guatemala, a municipal organisation funded by Cooperation Española, is organising group visits with children who have no access to formal education. For many of these it was the first time at a show, and an occasion to discuss their personal stories, in many cases related to migration. The initiative is organised by Paradox, with the support of the Centro Cultural de España.



WHERE WILL WE GO?

Nieuwland, The Netherlands. Jan 14-June 12

In ‘Where will we go?’, Kadir Van Lohuizen looks at the human consequences of the rising sea level. Due to climate change, glaciers are retreating and the ice of Greenland and Antarctica is melting at an increasing pace. Should humanity start preparing for the biggest displacement of mankind in known history?
