Angel Saleh of the Saleh Foundation is Special Honoree

Angel Saleh cares deeply about helping others. The longtime volunteer at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital and director of the Saleh Foundation said she has supported many different causes.

When she heard about Therapet, a Tyler-based organization whose volunteers bring animals to visit area hospitals, schools and other places needing their services to provide comfort, she knew she wanted to support the organization.

Chronicles sometimes miraculous health results of interacting with animals

In 2010, at the age of 51, appliance sales manager Eric O’Grey was in a bad place. He weighed 320 pounds and as a consequence was racking up more than $1,000 a month for medications to deal with his high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. Doctors told him that if he didn’t turn his life around and lose significant weight, his life expectancy was most likely no more than five years.

Then, at the advice of a doctor, he adopted a dog from a shelter.

Therapet estimates 50,000 human-animal interactions in 2015

Your support made it possible for Therapet to provide over 10,000 volunteer hours of Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) or Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) in 2015. Because of your support, children staying at the East Texas Crisis Center as a result of family violence or sexual assault could work on their reading skills by reading aloud to a specially trained dog. Because of your support, patients recoving from illnesses like strokes and surgeries like joint replacements were able to walk a little further because they were walking with a Therapet. Because of your support, a special needs child at the Wayne D. Boshears Center for Exceptional Programs smiled for the very first time because he was petting a Therapet.

Therapet now has ten facilities on our waiting list

There are lots of wonderful stories like Kaylee's that happened because of your support. Although we know instinctively that animals help in the healing process, more and more research is being published about the benefits of Animal Assisted Therapy. Chuck Norris is even an advocate! As a result, the demand for our services is up. We now have ten facilities on our waiting list and we get inquiries every week. 

Our goal is to move at least one facility off of our waiting list in 2016, but we need your help. Therapet is 100% donor-supported non-profit organization.
