Celebrating The Year  of the Monkey
Chinese Couplets" is journalist filmmaker Felicia Lowe's most probing, soulful, and accomplished documentary. It's a highly personal, magical journey that begins with her stating: "I really didn't know my mother. A half century and thousands of miles later . . .”  After trips to Havana, Honolulu, and Dutou Village, an epic tale spanning four generations of tenacious women unfolds. Here, the personal truly opens to the historical and we feel how hardships and choices live on in the fragments we hold onto, pieces of a puzzle we don't quite understand understand. "Chinese Couplets" is a history rigorously researched and deeply stirring. Bravo!
