Headlines this week
  • The latest Humble Bundle is now live! This is a really good one that comes with Grim Fandango, Lara Croft GO, Prune, and more highly rated games. You get three games for paying $1 or more, you can beat the average to get four more games, or pay a solid $6 to get everything. This is definitely a great bundle to grab.
  • Netflix came out and admitted this week that it intentionally throttles video speeds for AT&T and Verizon customers. Their reasoning is that those networks are hardcore strict with data requirements and they didn't want to be held responsible for overages. Makes sense, but still sucks for those people.
  • Sony announced that they will soon be developing games for mobile. They've established a new company called ForwardWorks that will take some old PlayStation properties and create new mobile games out of them. Sony has promised that these will be full-fledged games which is something everyone has been pining for.
  • There is so much hype for Miitomo right now that you could probably put it on a plate and eat it. The app was released in Japan this last week and has already netted over one million downloads. That's quite impressive and we expect the numbers to be similar or better when it gets a worldwide launch.
  • Hulu is joining the VR train by releasing an application to the Samsung Gear VR. The app contains some 360 videos or you can watch the standard 2D video in a 360 degree virtual living room which is kind of unique. The app can be found in the Gear VR store now.
  • We received our first official look at Pokemon GO this week with app screenshots. This is shortly after a video was leaked at SXSW that showed how the game will be played. We still have no idea when the game will be released, but expect it to be a huge hit when it does come out because it looks like fun.
  • Google is engaging in a little bit of April Fool's day tomfoolery this week as an astronaut named Alex Scott has been posting app reviews all over the place in the Play Store. The gag is that Alex Scott is posting from low orbit using a Nexus 16 and he's using spaceships instead of stars. Very amusing, Google.
  • A demolition company in Texas made an oopsies this last week when they accidentally demolished the wrong house. They had used Google Maps to find the site to tear down. Google Maps had the wrong house. The problem was fixed by Google but we've no idea how the situation is going to turn out for the lady who's house is now gone.
  • Google Play is running another special where you can save 75% on movie rentals from the service. The special gives you one rental at 75% off and you have until April 28th, 2016 to redeem the offer. This is another in a long line of promotions from Google trying to remind everybody that the movies section does, in fact, exist.
  • A study was released this week that shows that the majority of in-app purchases take place over the first three days of an app's' existence and, more interestingly, half of all in-app purchase revenue comes from a measly 1.9% of mobile gamers. This is a vastly different figure than most were probably expecting.
  • Some good news for the UK! Google has announced that Android Pay will launch in the UK in the next few months.
  • On that note, Spotify is launching soon in Indonesia and is considering expanding into India and Japan as well!
  • Google has rebranded the Chromecast app as the Google Cast app. Nothing else appears to be different aside from some stuff added in app updats, but Google Cast is official!
  • In this week's Android Customization, Johnny Feist shows you how to get started with IF by IFTTT on Android Wear!
