What's New at UW?

Campus climate at UW–Madison
In an effort to make campus more inclusive for members of a diverse community, UW–Madison has launched a campus climate site to track progress on related initiatives.

Proposals are being accepted through April 21 for on-campus activities that will help the campus climate.
Wood chips as microchips?
Every year, thousands of cellphones are thrown away. A research team at UW–Madison is working to create biodegradable wood computer chips to reduce the toxic waste from discarded electronics.
An emblematic species moves north
Changing climate and diminishing snow cover are pushing the range of the snowshoe hare north by about five and a half miles per decade, say Wisconsin researchers.

Madison weather shows warming climate
Climate trends show that Madison is getting warmer. Average March temps have trended upward since the mid-1800s, accompanied by shorter duration of frozen lakes and lower average wind speed.
Craft beer brewed from waste water
A brewery in California is creating a new beer brewed from recycled greywater, which is water that has been treated after use in sinks, showers and washing machines.
