Mentor & Mentee of the Month: Kristin Sharp & Rayza Lopez

Rayza recently completed our Teen Intership Program at Fleet Feet with the support of her mentor, Kristin Sharp. When Rayza initailly signed up, she was enrolled in the IEP program at Hoboken High School and struggling with tests. One of her goals was to improve her grades. By the time she completed her internship, Rayza not only had a job offer at Fleet Feet, but her grades had improved and after talking with her counselor she was able to get out of the the IEP program! Rayza is currently employed at Fleet Feet and getting ready to attend college next fall.

It is an amazing experience when they model you, put things into action and do things we specifically spoke about. Continue Reading

The experience also taught me how to maintain eye contact during presentations, be more outspoken, and to not be afraid.

Getting involved, whether it’s volunteering or mentoring, will be one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. The time commitment is not burdensome and you will meet other great people who are in a similar position to you. Continue Reading.

Dear Friends,
In honor of National Volunteers Month we are hosting a Happy Hour on Thursday, April 7th from 6:30 - 9:00pm at Grand Vin. We want to invite our donors, supporters past and current volunteers to join us as we come together as a community to celebrate our volunteers, recruit new volunteers and enjoy drinks and free appetizers compliments of Grand Vin! You can learn more about the event on our website and rsvp on facebook or via email (katie.eades@truementors.org).
We are also excited to announce our partnership with Ben & Jerry's for Free Cone Day on Tuesday, April 12th from noon-9pm! Our kids are excited to scoop ice cream, entertain the crowd and help us fundraise for our #changeforchange campaign! Last year they scooped 9,000 ice cream cones! If every single person donates 25 cents we will raise $2250! That is some impressive #changeforchange. We are also still in need of volunteers to scoop ice cream. You can sign up to volunteer and/or donate online.
April is an exciting month for us at TRUE Mentors as we have also been chosen as the raffle donation recipient for the
J. Shotmeyer launch party at BWE Kafe. The launch party is Thursday, April 14th from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. This is a great opportunity for us to share the TRUE Mentors mission and recruit new volunteers! If you are interested in helping out with the event please email katie.eades@truementors.og.
TRUE Mentors has several events throughout the month of April and we invite everyone to come check us out! Bring a friend, family member or significant other and get involved in the TRUE Mentor community! I want to thank all of our volunteers for helping make all of these events possible, particularly our events planning team and our newly formed marketing team for their assistance in promoting our upcoming events and sharing the TRUE Mentors mission. I look forward to seeing many of you this Thursday for our Happy Hour event!

Cheers,
