UH Residents, we want to hear from you!

In order to better serve our residents, the Underwood Hills Neighborhood Association has created a quick survey.  Answer as many or as few questions as you like as these are not mandatory. The goal of this survey is to help us better understand what you know and like about our neighborhood, and will help us to better improve the organization overall. Click the link below to get started with this easy survey, and thank you in advance for your help!

QuikTrip Appeal - Thursday, April 7

At our March General Membership Meeting, the UHNA voted to issue a Resolution in Support of Appeal V-15-015 of the Administrative Variances granted with respect to BL-15-04 (the proposed QuikTrip gas station at Defoor and Howell Mill).  The appeal will be heard before the Board of Zoning Adjustment this Thursday, April 7, at noon.  The appeal is the second item on the agenda.  The more people who attend in support of the appeal, the better.

When: Thursday, April 7 at Noon
Where: City Council Chambers at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave SW, Atlanta, GA

You can also email letters to the BZA if you cannot attend.  Below is a sample letter than you can edit and send to the BZA (email addresses are in the letter), along with other background on this issue.

Chip in to our Park Fund!

While we depend on volunteers for our park clean ups and other neighborhood beautification endeavors, we also need financial support.  If you would like to make a financial contribution to support our Park, please click here and select Underwood Hills Park from the drop down list.  All donations are tax deductible!  This will allow us to use our beautification budget toward other initiatives in the neighborhood, like better maintenance of our Underwood Hills signs on Harper and Woodland Hills and ordering new street sign toppers.

You may also send a check made payable to Park Pride with Underwood Hills Park in the memo line to:

Speed Humps Coming Soon

Thanks to the efforts of many of our neighbors, notably Beau Grant and Jeremy and Melissa Blair, Woodland Hills will see speed humps installed soon (we're told by the end of June) to help curb the speeding on this street. In order to be eligible for speed humps, after securing signatures from 75%+ of the owners on Woodland Hills in favor of the installation, a speed study was done which showed average speeds in excess of 35 MPH (10+ MPH over the posted speed limit). With this information, Woodland Hills was added to a list of streets eligible for speed humps, and in concert with Council Member Moore's office, our neighbors were diligent in reminding the City of our status and ensuring funding was made available for the installation.

April Recycling Tips from the City

Reduce, reuse, recycle.  Those are what three sides of the chasing arrows logo found on every recyclable item represent.  That logo informs the consumer that the item is recyclable where allowed.  Recycling is just portion of the larger effort that goes into saving our natural resources.  The big picture approach includes a fourth R; refuse, as in, refuse to accept single-use items.  Bring a reusable shopping bag and refuse the single-use plastic bag.  Bring a travel mug for beverages, and refuse a single-use coffee cup, wrapper, and lid.  Up to 52 billion paper coffee cups per year are used once then thrown away.  Due to health regulations, the cups must be made almost entirely of virgin—not previously used paper.  Would you join the City of Atlanta and reduce, reuse, recycle, and refuse?
The City of Atlanta accepts the following recyclables curbside: cardboard, carton board, paper, glass, plastics #1-5 & 7, metal cans, and juice cartons.  All recycling should be clean and dry, and placed loosely in bin, not bagged. Lids and caps should be removed and placed with recycling bins.

The City of Atlanta hosts Recycle Day at 850 Oak St., SW, Atlanta, GA  30310.  This event is held the 3rd Saturday of each month, except in December, between 9 AM to noon.   Acceptable items include:  paper for shredding, clothing, tires, #6 polystyrene, electronics, and all items accepted curbside.
