Who produces our food, now and in the future?
Join the Slow Food Youth Network Scotland for a Saturday afternoon and evening following food from soil to plate - at the amazing Whitmuir Farm, just south of Edinburgh.

This event is about connecting all of us who enjoy eating food with the people who are passionate about producing it. Young farmers and producers will be in the spotlight  - and we’re excited to be bringing perspectives from Scotland, the US and  the Netherlands!

A local food revolution is well underway in Scotland. We’re seeing more small farms and market gardens, more farmers’ markets and more urban food growing. Micro-breweries, community bakeries and other small, innovative producers are  rapidly changing the Scottish larder. Small producers tend to take better care of people and the environment and create more and more meaningful employment  - but it’s not always easy to make a living from local food.

Through farm tours, thought-provoking talks, and conversations we’ll explore how we can create closer connections between citizens and producers in Scotland.

At the event you'll meet aspiring, new and experienced farmers from all over Scotland and beyond, as well as pioneering retailers, chefs and activists working to change the food system. The day will close with a delicious, local and organic dinner, cooked up by The Edinburgh Larder!

What is the Slow Food Youth Network?

The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) is an international network of young people who bring about changes in the field of food production and consumption. It was founded by a number of enthusiastic and motivated young people with a passion for good, clean and fair food, and with an interest in sustainability issues.

We are the world's future leaders, entrepreneurs, farmers and consumers. The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) was founded to make youth familiar with Slow Food's philosophy that says that all food should be Good, Clean and Fair. This means that food should be prepared with care and respect, grown as sustainable as possible and that the farmers and producers should get a fair wage.

SFYN raises awareness among young citizens and consumers to encourage and mobilize them in making responsible choices. It wants them to take part in the public debate about current issues, such as how to feed the world, what to do about food waste, and how to produce food as sustainable as possible.
