Heart breaking, but life saving

This is Vietnamese mother Pham Minh Hiep and her baby Chi. Chi has retinoblastoma, a rare but deadly eye cancer and has just had surgery to remove her right eye, a procedure that has ultimately saved her life.

Adelaide based filmmaker, Lara Damiani, captured this photo and story while travelling to Vietnam recently with Sight For All Chairman, Dr James Muecke. Lara's moving and powerful story recounts her experience in Vietnam and why our work is so important.

Read Lara's inspirational story in her own words.....

Films For Sight Melbourne

We were excited to showcase six of our short films at Films For Sight held in Melbourne in early March. The event was generously sponsored by Oliver Hume Property Funds and provided an opportunity for new supporters and old friends to join us in Melbourne and learn more about our sight-saving work in Asia. In addition to viewing the inspirational short films, guests were treated to heart-warming stories by Sight For All Ambassador Steven Trigg and Sight For All Visionary, A/Prof James Elder.

Social photos from the evening can be viewed here.

Retina Fellowship in Lao

Sight For All Visionaries have just returned from a teaching trip to Lao as part of the Lao Retina Fellowship Program. Dr Alex Hunyor, retina specialist and ophthalmic nurse Mardi Leaney, worked with Dr Kamkhoune from the National Opthalmology Centre in Vientiane to improve knowledge and skills in treating patients with conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, eye trauma and macular degeneration. This Fellowship has been funded through proceeds raised from The Very Slow Long Lunch held in 2014. Thank you to all our incredible event sponsors and guests who made this possible and to our Visionaries who dedicate their time to share their skills. Collectively we have made this sustainable education project in Lao possible.

Can you help us?

The Sight For All team is in need of a couple of laptop computers to be used at events; be taken on overseas trips for studies and projects and be used by our volunteers in the office. If you are thinking of upgrading and would like to give your current laptop a new home, we would love to hear from you!

If you are interested or could assist, please call our Executive Officer, Judy Bickmore on 08 8222 4937 or email jbickmore@sightforall.org
