New Community Fund for Canada’s 150th builds community, inspires understanding, and encourages participation for the sesquicentennial!

A new collaboration for Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation is bringing people and places together to build community and activate a groundswell of local initiatives, activities, and events.

The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th is a collaboration led by Community Foundations of Canada and the national network of 191 community foundations, with the support of the Government of Canada and leaders from coast to coast to coast.

The Fund will engage Canadians from all walks of life in a wide range of local projects that build community, inspire a deeper understanding of Canada, and encourage participation in a wide range of initiatives that mark Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The Fund will be responsive to local priorities and will be accessible to all Canadians, including indigenous peoples, youth, groups that reflect our cultural diversity, and official language minority groups.

Meet Our Directors

The Shuswap Community Foundation has 12 members. Each board member serves a three year term, with the terms of four directors expiring each year. Half of the directors are appointed by an “Appointment Committee” made up of the Mayors of Salmon Arm and Sicamous, the Dean of Okanagan College, the Chair of the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, a representative of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District and a member of the Board of School District 83.

Each edition of our E-newsletter will feature a small article on one of our Directors.

Okanagan Regional Library (Shuswap)
Endowment Fund

The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is pleased to announce it has contributed seed funding in the amount of $5,000 to establish a permanent endowment with the Shuswap Community Foundation. When the endowment reaches $10,000 income earned will be used to support library services and programs in the Shuswap region. The Foundation and the ORL look forward to working with donors who would like to contribute to the fund.

“We recognize the importance of libraries in the Shuswap communities, and in planning for their future, we wanted to create an endowment to support library services,” explains ORL Board Chair, Catherine Lord of Vernon. “We hope this endowment encourages local residents to invest in the sustainability of their library.”

Dave Wood, SCF President, congratulated the ORL board on their acknowledgement of how community foundations can play a role in administering endowment funds which will provide future income in support of library services and programs.  SCF continues to grow its many agency funds; and welcomes the establishment of Okanagan Regional Library (Shuswap) Endowment Fund.

The Okanagan Regional Library – Shuswap Endowment Fund is open for anyone to contribute to in any amount or as part of a bequest. For more information, contact Shuswap Community Foundation at 250-832-5428 or by email at info@shuswapfoundation.ca
