During the season of Lent, our services – particularly the sermons/reflections – were centered around the book “Gifts of the Dark Wood: Seven Blessings for Soulful Skeptics,” mentioned above. Obstacles happen. Then what? Do they make us or break us? And what does that have to do with living a life informed by the life of Jesus? Pretty much everything.
Now we are in the liturgical season of Eastertide! The fifty days between Easter and Pentecost, this is a season characterized in the scripture story as one of sudden, mystifying appearances and disappearances of Jesus in the physical plane. One minute gone, and the next, on the beach grilling fresh fish for – not the last supper – but the first breakfast!
So presently we are journeying more through an Enchanted Wood than a dark one. We encounter mystery even more clearly than obstacle. Stories we share across time and culture are popping in and out: Mary Poppins blew through a sermon one morning, Ali Baba and Aladdin showed up with their caves full of treasure. Who knows what’s next? And we continue to ask: What does this mystery have to do with living a life informed by the life of Jesus? And the answer....again....you guessed it! Pretty much everything.

Featuring original eclectic jazz and creative pop covers, Fuzzy Math Jazz Ensemble will be performing as the final event in this year's Community Concert Series. Named on the Best of MN list for "best jazz act for people bored with jazz", Fuzzy Math will ring out the series in style!
The concert is free and open to all!

Easter at PPUMC!
On the Saturday of Easter weekend we hosted our annual Easter Egg Party. Children and adults of all ages celebrated by dying eggs, painting pictures, and hunting for eggs!

Showcasing a broad variety of styles, Calliope's voices rose to the rafters of the sanctuary during their April 9 performance at PPUMC. Celebrating their 40th year, the concert offered a preview of their anniversary celebration, which will be performed in full at Sundin Hall on the Hamline University campus in St. Paul on April 17.

In addition to fun and familiar songs, such as Pharrell Williams' Happy, Calliope asserted their support for the LGBT+ community with a section of the concert dedicated to "Standing on the Side of Love." Some of the standout moments of their performance included a touching performance of True Colors (Bill Steinberg and Tom Kelly) by a smaller ensemble, and a powerful rendition of Ysaye Barnwell's Go Down, Moses. Thank you again to Calliope for joining us and offering their wonderful music in support of Family Wise!
