Peak Pioneer ~ April 4, 2016

Prospective and current students had a great time yesterday at Peak's annual Rock N' Bowl event at Lakeside Bowl in Dillon! Thanks to everyone who came and brought a friend!

A letter from the Head of School:

Dear Parents:
Yesterday’s Rock N’ Bowl was such a fun event and a great way to wind up a beautiful weekend. I’m so glad that several prospective families were there – a perfect opportunity for parents and students to spend time getting to know each other in a relaxed and fun environment. Kudos, Jessie, for making it all happen, and many thanks to Susie Tunks and Sarah Grunes for contributing the baked goods and helping to make it a great party.

This morning’s Casual Coffee was a presentation in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the publishing of Democracy and Education by John Dewey, a seminal work in the history of progressive education. If you missed the conversation and want to read about the importance of Dewey’s ideas on Peak’s model of education, here is a link to my presentation.

An update on our search for a new teacher at the Upper School level: Kerry Keating, our first finalist candidate, will be visiting Peak on Wednesday this week with her daughter, Niamh, currently in 3rd grade. Kerry will have a full day at Peak, teaching a sample class, sitting in on classes, and meeting with groups of students, teachers, and parents.

A reminder to parents of our current 10th graders: Amy and Travis Macy, our college counselors extraordinaire, will be at Peak tomorrow (Tuesday) evening from 6:00 – 7:30 pm to meet you and your students and talk about our distinctive college readiness program. All Peak parents and students are invited, and if you haven’t met the Macy’s yet I encourage you to come and hear about the support and guidance they provide to all Peak students in the final two years of their experience here.

Our next CommuniTeach Day will be Friday, April 22 – Earth Day – and workshops will be offered on an Environmental theme. If you would like to lead a workshop related to the environment in any discipline, or know of someone who would be a great addition to the line-up of presenters, please contact Adam (970.368.5601 or adam.brenner@thepeakschool.education) soon.

Have a great Spring Break, everyone!

All the best,
