The College of Communication Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce that the 8^th Annual International Lending Center Drive has officially begun! This drive collects household items to donate to the International Student Lending Center on campus. The center lends out donated items for international students to use during their stay at MSU, helping make the transition to the United States both more comfortable and more affordable for these students and their families. Since these donations are reused over and over again by different students and their families, contributions truly have a lasting effect on the MSU community.

  

Please encourage faculty, staff, and students in your college/department to consider donating. Items needed include new or gently used household items such as bedding, dishes and bowls, cutlery and cookware, bathroom necessities, rugs, lamps, etc. (We are unable to accept furniture, clothing, toiletry or cleaning products.) Financial contributions or gift cards will also be accepted and donated directly to the Lending Center. Meijer and MSUFCU are making financial contributions once again this year.

Items will be accepted until August 5, 2016. Drop off donations in the South lobby (or Room 189) of the Communication Arts and Science building.

NWEA Summer Research Internship Program

Northwest Evaluation Association’s™ (NWEA™) Summer Research Internship Program introduces outstanding Ph.D. and Ed.D. graduate students to the organization. Founded by educators nearly 40 years ago, NWEA is a global not-for-profit educational services organization known for our flagship interim assessment, Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). More than 7,600 partners in U.S. schools, school districts, education agencies, and international schools trust us to offer pre-kindergarten through grade 12 assessments that accurately measure student growth and learning needs, professional development that fosters educators’ ability to accelerate student learning, and research that supports assessment validity and data interpretation. To better inform instruction and maximize every learner’s academic growth, educators currently use NWEA assessments with nearly eight million students.

About the Internship
The Graduate Student Interns provide day-to-day support to our Advanced Research and Development, Academic Services, Data Services, Education Research and Psychometric services teams that comprise our Research group. We are looking for interns who love tackling intricate problems, telling stories and finding solutions through data and research. The intern selection process is based on matching summer interns and their skills and interests with NWEA research projects. The internship program runs in the summer months only, with interns working at NWEA full-time for a nine-week period. NWEA will compensate $9,000, paid on a bi-monthly schedule for the nine-week period. Compensation is subject to tax. Summer interns have full access to NWEA research facilities, computer hardware and software, and seminar presentations. NWEA reimburses airfare for interns who relocate to Portland for the summer. Housing, food, and other personal expenses are the responsibility of the intern.

NWEA’s core research teams include:
-Advanced Research and Development is responsible for identifying and exploring new and innovative ideas for expanding and improving NWEA’s product line and strengthening measurement methods and practices.
-Academic Services provides expertise related to assessment and item design, curriculum and instruction, and education issues.
-Data Services is responsible for the management of the Growth Research Database (GRD) - the longitudinal data source for internal and external research projects, runs test validations, item calibrations, and supports the work of the Research Team portfolio.
-Education Research works closely with NWEA staff and partners in the field to consult on best practices for using and visualizing assessment data, and manages partnerships with universities and foundations.
-Psychometric Services ensures and advances the psychometric integrity of NWEA’s products and practices and conducts research to advance the theory and practice of the psychometric field.

Eligibility
Full-time students who have completed at least two years of graduate work leading toward a doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in educational measurement, educational psychology, statistics, educational policy, or related fields.
