Youths, Bedrock of a Nation’s development, the Focus of NIRA’s 10th Year Anniversary.
It has been a beehive of activity in the last few weeks, as we celebrate NiRA at 10. We had the Youth Empowerment Programme on Saturday, 19th March 2016 and the NiRA Social media and TweetFEST competitions on Easter Monday, 28th March 2016. These events were to engender wealth creation and empowerment of our youths.
The Youth Empowerment Program that held at the Muson Centre, Lagos was tailored for success, by keeping the context local. The youths were captivated by the speakers and their presentations. The Program was declared open by the Acting Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Vincent Olatunji, represented by Barr. Emmanuel Edet, NITDA’s Legal Adviser. Deacon Chima Onyekwere, the Chairman, NiRA Board of Trustees presented the awards to the .ng Ambassadors. Three speakers engaged the youths.

MY NIRA EXPERIENCE
A report by Ahmad Tijani Abudullahi a student of the Department of Mathematical Sciences & IT, Federal University Dutsin-ma, Katsina State.
It was journey into oblivion; as we, the students of the Department of Mathematical Sciences and IT of Federal University, Dutsin-ma left Dutsin-ma, a remote town, up north in Katsina State, up northern Nigeria left for Lagos state, the commercial nerve center of our country, Nigeria.
Oblivion because, though we were told we would visit the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA); I had no idea why NiRA was selected as a case study nor what to expect when we get there. However, this oblivion did not last long as it was washed away by the ocean of knowledge and information imparted on us by the NiRA personnel during our visit.

CCWG-ACCOUNTABILITY Implementation and Work Stream 2
In December 2014, the Cross Community Working Group on Enhancing ICANN Accountability (CCWG-Accountability) was formed to deliver proposals that would enhance ICANN's accountability towards all stakeholders.
The work of the CCWG-Accountability was carried out in two Work Streams:
- Work Stream 1: focused on mechanisms enhancing ICANN accountability that must be in place or committed to within the time frame of the IANA Stewardship Transition;
- Work Stream 2: focused on addressing accountability topics for which a timeline for developing solutions and full implementation may extend beyond the IANA Stewardship Transition.
With the completion of the Work Stream 1 report and delivery to NTIA in March 2016, work has begun on the implementation of the Work Stream 1 recommendations, followed by the development of a Work Stream 2 report. The Work Stream 2 items are listed in Annex 12 of the CCWG-Accountability report. The areas covered are listed as:
- Considering improvements to ICANN's standards for diversity
- Focused efforts to enhance ICANN's transparency
- Improving and clarifying expectations of ICANN staff accountability
- Enhancing the accountability of ICANN's Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees
- Addressing jurisdiction-related questions, focused on applicable law for contracts and dispute settlements
- Developing a Framework of Interpretation for ICANN's Human Rights commitment and proposed draft Bylaw (more information in Annex 6 of the Work Stream 1 Report)
- Considering enhancements to the Ombudsman's role and function
