Greetings! On January 1, 2016 I assumed the office of the Region II AICP Commissioner. As your new Commissioner I want to thank the South Carolina Chapter for giving me the opportunity to introduce myself to you. Many exciting events are occurring within the American Institute of Certified Planners. The first being the induction next month of the Class of 2016 AICP College of Fellows in Phoenix at the APA National Conference. 61 new planners will receive the highest honor that AICP bestows upon on a member. If you see one of these new inductees, please take a moment to recognize the outstanding contributions they have made to our profession! Continue reading here

Planning's Big Tent | A Message from the SCAPA President
By: Ernie Boughman

It is such a privilege to be part of the planning community and a distinct and humbling honor to lead the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (SCAPA). As I work here in South Carolina, travel to projects around the country, and volunteer within this organization, I am continuously reminded of the “Big Tent” that planning embraces. Inclusiveness is not just a concept for planners, it is a way of life. Continue reading here

2015 was a good year for SCAPA. We ended the year with revenues greater than budgeted and expenses under budget for a total net income of $8,425.20. We will use the same audit firm as last year to complete this year’s audit. SCAPA continues to support educational initiatives with its annual funding support to Clemson’s Student Chapter, excellent conference offerings spread across the state, and continued support for AICP Exam Training. Conferences continue to be well attended, which helps our overall financial position. We encourage all SCAPA members to attend as many conferences as possible as they not only help members stay current with trends and AICP credits, they help the chapter financially. We hope all members will continue to renew their memberships, to encourage new members to join, and to spread the word about SCAPA! For a detailed look at the SCAPA budget, click here.

SCAPA Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 SCAPA Conference Scholarship Program: Mallory Baches is attending the APA National Conference and LaToya Grate will be attending the Fall SCAPA-GPA Conference. The SCAPA Executive Committee believes that attendance at chapter and national conferences contributes to the professional development of the individual member, to the overall performance of the Chapter, and ultimately APA. Congratulations to our winners!

Through the American Planning Association, SCAPA was given a scholarship of $350 towards the AICP exam scholarship. The scholarship application period ended on February 19th. Through this process, two very worthy applications were received. The Executive Committee decided to award both candidates with APA providing one scholarship and SCAPA providing the other. One of our scholarship recipients will take the exam in May and the other in November of this year. Congratulations to the members receiving the scholarships!
