Hari Om!
Welcome to April....firstly a massive thank you to everyone who made my birthday recently so special.  Felt huge warmth and love...may it keep reverberating around the Planet!

As I write I am very aware that I go off to Nepal in 4 days time with my fellow yogis.  One member is unable to join us...please send Sue and Tot your unconditional love and healing; please keep them in your energy circle.  They both need it.

So, we set off on April 6th and will be visiting as many people as possible that we have sent money to over the past year.  What I hope we can do is share the experience with you all.  I am looking into doing a Nepal day/evening, including film show and food.  Will keep you posted.  Hopefully it will wet your appetite so you all come to Nepal next year and the year after!

Since the middle of January we have raised over £3000.  A massive thank you.  The other week, as a result mainly from the raffle for the Easter Simnel cake made by Joan, the silver tin had £240 in it.  I was speechless....I know that is hard to believe!  There was money in it from a premium bond win, plant sale as well but even so, a huge amount.  Many thanks.

Yoga wise March was a month of more mudras and the Egyptian Sun Salute.  I have included it this time so you can keep working with it.  It is a lovely practice and you can add in and take away what feels right.  There is also a relaxation for you based on one we did the other week as so many of you commented on how it took you off to lovely places.  I have also included a write up on the Kapalabhati breath which we have been doing again.  This is such a good practice on so many levels.  If you are struggling with it do let me know and we can go over it again.
Finally, this last week we have worked with the Shanghai Hospital practice in some classes and you wanted the music.  It is Tjampuhan from the album Ngaio Gamelan by David Parsons.

Weekend Retreat at Wortley Hall....this is always a wonderful weekend and this year was no exception.  We had some new attendees and even if I do say so myself ... it was a cracking good weekend!  Such lovely energy and some very special realisations and sharing.  The next one is booked....17th to 19th March 2017.

Heanor class....if you have ever wondered whether yoga is for you or not, I did this video for the Acorn Natural Health Centre where I teach once a week.  It almost went viral on facebook!!!!  Take a look and check out all that they do at the centre. www.acornnaturalhealth.co.uk

Master Classes....new dates available for your diary.  The June and July ones are full days and will be held at Weleda in Ilkeston.  The June one will be based on looking at the energy of the sun.  July will be a retreat day, so gentle but deeply connecting yoga.  Those not wishing to stay for the full day will have that option, as the main physical practice will be in the morning.  There is a lovely garden space at Weleda so I hope to use that both days.

I also have an idea of running a yoga and craft day.  Getting people along to share skills but more importantly selling their wares in time for Christmas ... and helping Nepal at the same time.  I keep being given lovely homemade items so thought it would be a great way of raising money and awareness of all the lovely things people do in our midst.  Let me know if you want to be involved, or have an idea as to how to make it happen.

Yoga and ayurveda holiday to Kerala, India April 2017, the first week booked out so quickly that we have been able to run a second week... read more>>
I am hugely excited about this trip as it combines yoga and ayurveda in a beautiful setting.  The fisrt week is full but the second week has a few spaces still.  Keep your eyes peeled as Ann and I have other adventures planned!

Yoga and Astrology Retreat Weekend at Willersley Castle, Cromford, Derbyshire 29th July 2016 ... 2 spaces only left... read more >>

Yoga clothing... I am always on the look out for good quality yoga clothing.  Recently I found Yogichi.  They are a family business and are offering simple but beautiful clothing.  Take a look and if you use the code 'Oakwood' you will get a discount.  I am really happy with the items I have bought.  The leggings stay up and are really thick (no chance of underwear being seen) and the t shirts and tops are beautifully shaped and generous in fit.

Fundraising for Nepal continues...you can still sponsor  Dani who is running a half marathon whilst we are in Nepal...sponsor her here!
The school we are helping to build still needs money to get things started.  This will be our focus for a while until we can get the children a safe practical building to use.
Another way of helping Nepal, apart from visiting, is by having money donated just for shopping on line.  If you go to this link, it will tell you how shopping will help LED....a charity we have supported throughout and who will be building the school we will support.

Tinnitus...I often get asked what yoga can do for Tinnitus.  My lovely friend Shona runs the facebook page Central England Lipreading Support Trust and recently shared details of  www.tinnitusbham.org.uk   I thought those of you who suffer may be interested.  Shona's page is brilliant...I hope I never lose my hearing.  You have to take care of it like any other part of your body.

Really hope you enjoy April and you get time to watch Spring come to life.  I really love this time of year.

Am sure I have forgotten something...it will have to wait!!

Sending you love, joy and peace.

Namaste
Phillipa  xx

Rebuilding a School

When the Nepal trip was planned last September it seemed a long way away.  Now we are on the eve of departure.  But fund raising will continue.  It looks like we will be helping build a school in the Nuwacot area.  We will be visiting it next week and taking all the lovely books and pencils you have generously given.  We will also be taking supplies to the Children's Hospital in Kathmandu.
Dani is looking forward to her run in the half marathon - despite the altitude!  If you can share the link below to help us raise funds that would be fantastic.  If you can donate a fiver that would be super cool!

Raffle Wins!

Our latest raffle was for a Easter Simnel Cake lovingly made by Joan Keating.  It was won by Fay from Thursday Oakwood class...lucky lady.  Joan made me a piece...I really didn't want to share with Nick it was so delicious.  A huge thank you to Joan but also everyone who bought tickets.  The total was overflowing with £240 in it.  We also had a lovely Easter Egg donated by Carole from Wednesday evening class....sorry I managed to melt it in the car Roman!

We are hoping to help rebuild a school.  I will be talking to the people involved once in Kathmandu.  All the books and pencils etc you have donated will be going to the school.  I use the word school lightly, as at the moment, it is just a tin roof over some thin bits of wood acting as walls.

Energy Bites
These delicious chocolatey energy bites are easy to make and good for you.  The recipe is from Julie Nelstrop's daughter.  Thank you.   Recipe here.
Savoury Cheesecake
I'm not sure where I got this receipe from but it is lovely.  Hadn't made it for a while, and I love blue cheese.  Relatively quick to do and great to share.
Recipe here.

The Land

On our doorstep we have this wonderful project to feed into.  There is a wonderful programme of events for the summer; but Susie is also open to The Land being used outside of their planned schedule. For example, our Yoga and Willow Weaving day will be held here.
Do get in touch with Susie to learn more.  Their website is www.the-land.co.uk.
Their 5 principles are based around:
  • being a catalyst for growth
  • teachings and practices to connect us to who we really are
  • to support one another in our individual and collective development
  • living and working on the land with a light touch, that nurtures and supports the Earth
  • space for creativity and light heartedness, letting the inner child out
It really is a very special place energetically.
We have had a little fun over the last month looking at different sequences with the sun in mind.  I promised a version of the Egyptian Sun Salute.  This version has almost everything in it to help keep the physical body mobile...and no pressure on wrists and shoulders.  In most classes I taught it with the arms at shoulder level, but try this way too.
Relaxation
One of the relaxations last month went really well.  So I have recorded it for you...hope it is helpful.
A walk in the country.
I have promised to share Kapalbhati with you all too.  We have been working with this for the last few weeks and it is a wonderful practice.  Once you get the rythum it is like driving a car...you never forget!  Kapalbhati Pranayama
