April 4, 2016: Are You Still Following Jesus?
View this email in your browser

Dear <<First Name>>,

As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Luke 9:57-58

Walking with Jesus over the long haul requires a perpetual focus upon who He is as our Lord. When we first begin to follow, He is usually our "Savior," and to many people that is where their relationship with Him ends. They trust Him to "bless them," "save them," "help them," and "take them" to heaven. These are wonderful aspects of the way the Lord watches over us, but they are different from following Him. These attributes are self focused. Following Jesus is "Jesus" focused.

The man in this verse had the same emotional experience most of us had when we first met Jesus. "I will follow you... wherever... you go." Jesus' reply reminds us that if we are going to follow Him, and not our own desires of Him, He is going to take us places that we do not want to go and want us to do things we do not want to do. In other words, following Him is actually going to be both hard and difficult. He is going to want to be the Lord of our lives, not simply our Savior. In modern terms, He will want to become "the Boss of me."

We all began with the "whatever it takes" commitment, but check your life now. Are you making your decisions based upon His Lordship and calling or your security and comfort? This is the test of following.

We can always return to the road Jesus is walking. Simply repent and start walking. He is waiting for you.

Here is today's reading.
