STUDENT EXCHANGE AT SEK BOCA RATON PREP
|
|
|
Interview with Eliana Davila, High School student who had been a student exchange at SEK Boca Raton Prep International School located in the city of Boca Raton, Florida, United States.
How was your exchange student experience?
My experience was very pleasant and at the same time very enriching for my education. I met many people from different nationalities. I could learn part of their cultures and traditions as well. Furthermore, it helped me have a multicultural and open-minded perspective.
Also, this was a great opportunity to practice my English skills in daily activities. Since this was the only way to communicate with my friends, and the language that I used in my classes.
I recommend to enroll to this Student Exchange Program because it is an amazing chance to improve English skills and to practice the language in a native environment.
What is the importance of learning a second language?
Speaking a second language, represents a huge advantage in this competitive society. In my opinion, this is a tool that will help me in the future, in order to be a citizen of the world and not just of one nation.
As an outgoing person, learning a second language helps me socialize with people from other countries. Additionally, it helps me enrich a multi-cultural outlook.
Tell us an anecdote about your trip.
The most significant anecdote that I had, was when I visited the theme parks of Universal Studios and Magic Kingdom of Disney with my friends of SEK Boca Raton high school. There I enjoyed a lot with them and we created strong bonds. I remember, the night we stayed up talking and sharing different experiences. It was so amazing! I would love to do it over again.
How do you think learning English at School has helped you in this experience?
In classes you learn a lot about tenses and sentence structures. This helped me a lot to develop conversations in Boca Raton. Actually, I realized that what is learned in class is really important and should be appreciated due to the fact that the basic rule in our English classes is to use this language every time we need to communicate with the teacher and classmates. This was identical to what I experienced at SEK Boca Raton Prep.

INFORMADOS E INSTRUIDOS, UNA NECESIDAD DEL SIGLO XXI
|
|
|
|

Art with Mr. Hoffman
Students in Mr. Hoffman's third grade art class are learning about the parts of a flower by having each student build one. Using paper towel rolls, balloons and plastic pie cover plates as armatures, our students were able to papier-mache the stem, the petals and the sepal. We used cut paper to create the leaves and stamens and a pipe cleaner to create the pistil. It took quite a few weeks to create this beautiful flower garden, but the results are amazing. The students became quite skilled in papier-mache and did a beautiful job painting, and naming, their flowers.

Movie set, optical illusions, visual effects
The 8th grade students enjoyed an awesome interactive tour at the Korda Film Studio. They learned about the Hungarian-born British film director and producer, Sir Alexander Korda. They also had the opportunity to see what goes on backstage during a film. They had fun trying several movie tricks and were also informed about the casting, make-up and post-production of well-known movies.
