April 14, 2016: First session of full negotiations
Your negotiating team came to the table with a strong voice to advocate for patients and nurses today.
In our opening statements, we called on management to agree to a contract that works for nurses and Allina Health.
We provided detailed proposals to Allina Health management to improve staffing, education, workplace safety, hours, posting and granting positions, and leaves of absence.
Our proposals are based on input from members – what you’ve told us is important to you. We all know how critical it is to stand united in the face of management’s attempts to destroy our voice and our union.
Our negotiations are about more than health insurance – they are about sustaining our voice for our patients and our profession. We will keep that power when we’re united and show we’ll fight together.

We asked Allina to “be a leader in the community and address what is a safe number of patients” for nurses to care for at one time, and to “lead the change of the staffing narrative from saving pennies to saving lives.” We asked management to talk openly about what will improve patients’ care environment.
We emphasized the need to keep the MNA health insurance plans.
We requested transparency in job postings and consistency in the process of offering jobs. Management made a counter proposal and we’re requesting more information about it.
If we lose our voice, we lose the power to protect our patients. As nurses, we will all continue to advocate for our patients and our profession. Stay strong.
