I  have several lessons  which I have learnt about sport in a boys school.

"Boys who play sport stay out of Court"

"Boys practice courage more on the playing fields than in any other place"

"Show me a boy who plays competitive sport , studies with purpose and I will give you a man who not only has character but also a secure future" 

Every parent knows the obvious facts about their sons. 
That their boys are active beings from day one of their lives. That they have a need to move and that they are competitive in everything.

Every educator knows the obvious knowledge about students.That girls transmit emotion into talking.
                 
 That boys transmit emotion into movement

And every boys' school knows that community - essential for education-is formed more on the sports field than any other place. And they know that good learning in classrooms is complemented by good purpose on the sport field.

At St Paul's College we need to lift our participation and achievement in school sport -with every boy. 

It is not sufficient for a boy to register for a team code and then simply to not front at practice or Saturday's  And it is not a matter of simply an apology. It is a matter of being present for each practice and each game

So Parents, and boys..There are expectations in playing sport 

Parents: It is not sufficient to have your son away playing sport on Saturday/Wednesday while you are doing something else..."more important" 

We need you to be present each game as coach, manager, umpire, referee or as a parent.
We need you to give back your sporting knowledge to coach other players
We need you to model behaviour which says..the referee is always right ( even with a wrong decision), that violence of language or action is wrong. 
If our words are NOT  going to be positive about a game, about a referee or coach, etc then we simply say nothing

                                               We all need to model the phrase: 
                                      "Humble in victory. Gracious in defeat"

Men of St Pauls. We need you to commit yourself to each practice and game and to play each game with a big heart and great attitude 

 We need you to be "fit" in the head, "fit" in the body and "fit" in the heart

We do NOT  want you, as St Paul's men, to be flaky in attitude, flabby of body or  floppy in commitment 

We expect you to represent your school, (your parent's school) with pride and purpose on the field and off the field. Blazers and full dress uniform are expected at every first team coming to and going home from the game.

We expect you and your team to win.

I am looking forward to meeting the many parents of St Pauls on the sideline of games this coming winter season and watching your sons playing with courage.

School starts Monday 2nd May at 8.50am
