We started talking about this project with our clients about 12 months before they moved into the high-end new development in Sydney’s Balmain.
Whether working in confined spaces or large rooftops, playing with scale always yields great results and we designed a series of oversized custom planters to create impact and a strong focal point from the living area.
Simple compositions of stunning plant specimens include advanced Dwarf Date Palms (Phoenix roebelenii), and clipped Cloud Trees (Juniperus chinensis ‘keteleeri’). Assorted succulents and herbs created further interest and we used the climber Blue Thunbergia (Thunbergia grandiflora) to soften an end wall.
The large central garden we created helps define both the intimate lounging and expansive dining spaces, whilst also providing a home for the clients beloved Ganesh and Buddha statues. The succulent collection table adds some personality and interesting texture to the space, and gives the clients something to tinker with as their mood takes them.
The varied materials palette include a contrasting mix of handmade terracotta for its earthiness and texture, along with slick bespoke cylinders that we hand painted in metallic bridge paint. Antique brass pots add character and warmth and it all makes for a great mix.
