SBJ's Smith & Ourand report the NCAA, CBS & Turner will discuss the possibility of moving the trio of games around the MBB Final Four to consistent homes every year. CBS could get the National Championship with Turner the two semifinals. NCAA EVP for Championships & Alliances Lewis says "it’s really premature to even speculate about the future and what may or may not happen." Contract between the parties would likely have to be reworked if a change is made, Turner currently pays 70% of rights fee, more. - link
SEC Commish Sankey chimes-in on the satellite FB camp debate, "I would say that people saw the potential problems that we could be creating or allowing to continue outweighing any perceived benefit associated with it in recruiting." More, "I do not view that we have removed opportunities from young people...If people want to have discussions about expanding the evaluation period that should be a piece of the holistic conversation, but we shouldn't be creating ad hoc recruiting events that more and more involve intentional marketing efforts, sponsors involved." - link
Ohio State FB HC Meyer on the decision to deregulate electronic communication with prospective FB student-athletes, "The texting thing is the most ignorant thing I've ever heard in my life...Do you really want text messages from 100 universities on your phone when you come out of school? The ones I know don't...Some intern is going to be punching text messages on your phone, and maybe you can block numbers and all that, but that's just too hard, right?" Also notes how he disagrees with the satellite campus decision, hopes both can still be reversed. - link
How did this one slip by me last week? Big East Commish Ackerman to Sports Illustrated on the possibility of allowing student-athletes to endorse products, "It’s actually a time right now where student athlete interests are being closely examined. I don’t have an answer for you on that one today but I will say that and a number of other topics are under review, and I think rightly by the NCAA and it’s very possible that over the course of the next year or two as these these ideas work their way through the legislative system you could see changes." - link
The much-discussed new open records law in Georgia is a done deal. Governor Deal signed the bill yesterday that will now give public schools in the state up to 90 days to respond to requests. Lt. Governor Cagle, "I hope it brings us a national championship is what I hope." Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications for the Governor Talaber Ryan, "This is an economic development bill and the governor supported the inclusion of the language regarding athletics. It simply levels the playing field with other states that also have strong athletic programs like Georgia." - link
Sporting News columnist DeCourcy argues the WBB situation at Louisiana Tech should not have happened as former HC Summitt should still be cutting his teeth as an AC. Points to the children of other former high-flying HCs, such as Pat Knight & Tony Bennett, moving their way up the ladder in an appropriate manner, instead of becoming an HC at the young age of 23. Ultimately believes Summitt was hired in Ruston because of one reason. - link

Hoops is behind us, at least the games are, but the money made from the NCAA MBB Tourney will be delivered to conferences for years to come & the Providence Journal's McNamara reviews how the AAC is raking in cash thanks to its separation agreement with the Big East from 2013. Part of the agreement allowed the AAC to stake claim to units earned by the likes of Louisville, West Virginia & Syracuse that helped drive an industry high payment of $29.3m last spring in exchange for the 'Big East' name & rights to play the MBB post-season tourney in Madison Square Garden. - link

On October 2nd of last year, USF FB lost to Memphis to drop to 1-3. Less than two months later the Bulls had run off seven wins in their last eight games to finish the regular season 8-4 & change the narrative around HC Taggart. With spring FB in full swing, I thought it would be interesting to visit with Senior Assoc. AD for External Relations, Andrew Goodrich, to see if last season's strong close in Tampa changed any of his marketing objectives this spring. Listen by clicking the link. - link (length - 4:58)
