  April 2016
Welcome to our April email newsletter...
Hello <<First Name>>,

Welcome back to Baildon Town Council’s email newsletter, which has relaunched following a break over the winter months.

With the local elections approaching for both Bradford Council and the West Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner (Thursday 5th May), it seems opportune to reflect on some of the other chances to engage in local democracy.

To keep updated about the activities of the Town Council, the website www.baildontowncouncil.gov.uk is updated regularly with news and information, including the agenda and minutes for Council meetings. Bradford Council has a wealth of information on its own website at www.bradford.gov.uk. The respective websites include details for all councillors.

Essential local notices are posted on at least one (and usually all three) of the Town Council’s boards, which are located outside Baildon Community Link on Cliffe Avenue (near the gate to the park), alongside the steps in the Ian Clough car park, and adjacent to the bus stop where Woodcot Avenue meets Otley Road.

The vast majority of both Baildon and Bradford council meetings are open to members of the public to observe. Most Town Council meetings also have a period of time set aside for residents to speak on any local matter. In addition, the Town Council hosts the Annual Town Meeting, which is a legal requirement and an opportunity for councillors to report back on the year’s activities. The 2016 Annual Town Meeting will be held on 11th May at 7pm in Ian Clough Hall and all are welcome.

The Town Council looks forward to hearing from you and perhaps meeting as we continue to work together to 'build a better Baildon'.

Best wishes,

Joe Ashton
Chair of Baildon Town Council
Baildon Neighbourhood Plan
20/4/16: Want to help shape Baildon's future?

You can, by helping us produce a Neighbourhood Plan - a plan which is both community led and is used in determining planning applications in the area.

A Neighbourhood Plan:
  • Is a community-led framework for guiding the future development and growth of an area
  • Relates to the use and development of land and associated social, economic and environmental issues
  • May deal with a wide range of issues or may focus on one or two issues that are of particular importance in a local area
  • Has statutory force as part of Bradford’s Local Plan
Do you have the knowledge, skills or just an interest in helping the Town Council? If you think you can help or want more information, why not come along to one of our consultation events?

Four have already taken place but the final one is on Wednesday 20th April at St James' Church Hall from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. Alternatively, contact the Deputy Town Clerk on 01274 593169 or by email, or visit our website for more information.

New curb and resurfaced bridleway
Warden's report: New curb and resurfaced bridleway

Our warden reports that the bridleway from the end of Ladderbanks Lane, descending into Tong Park and then on to Hawksworth, had become very difficult to walk on due to its surface being eroded into a `V` cross-section by rainwater, much of which came from the tarmac surfaces at its its top end.

Baildon Town Council funded resurfacing of the worst sections and the installation of a kerb which now prevents water flowing off the road then down the path. The recent picture (above) indicates that the kerb has done its job during the winter's exceptional rainfall. We hope that, if you`ve previously been deterred from walking this path, you may like to try again!
Buck Lane footpath
Buck Lane footpath

The Town Council has allocated funds to have the footpath between Buck Bridge and the cottages resurfaced. This popular walking, running, horseriding and cycling route has been heavily eroded over the years.

The project was suggested by Baildon Friends of the Earth, and is part of the Council's long term plan to improve footpaths in the area, working with the volunteers of Baildon Walkers are Welcome. If you know of a badly damaged path, or are interested in helping, let us know by emailing warden@baildontowncouncil.gov.uk.
Survey for those affected by the December floods

At its meeting on Tuesday 19 January 2016, Bradford Council agreed that the Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Committee undertake an in-depth Scrutiny Review into the effectiveness of Bradford Council and its partners in dealing with the floods across the district in December 2015.

As part of this review, information-gathering sessions with residents and businesses affected by the floods will be arranged for July 2016.

In the meantime, there is an online survey available for those that were affected by the December floods to complete. The findings from the survey will be used to inform the information-gathering sessions in July 2016.
